The Aggregated Library

Place

The Aggregated Library is known to house every text that has ever been discovered since its making. Both fiction and non-fiction has a place in the library in two separate wings. It is exceptionally hard to get your text into the library, and an even bigger deal when someone goes there to ask for a copy of your text.

Authors of smaller texts receive a letter whenever someone has requested to see their text, with information about who and when they asked. Scholars with a lot of texts in the library tend to ask not to be notified of this as they would simply have time for nothing but letters, brainy bigshots as they fancy themselves.

Hastily, the library is being filled, and the Librarians are having trouble keeping everything organized with how many texts are coming in. The archives are a mess and only older texts and very important texts are easy to find now, and some of the Library Helpers' memories have started to fail the incoming mass of paper and tomes. One helper introduced magic to sort, clean, and organize, but he was promptly thrown out as there is a strict no-magic policy on the premises.

The Aggregated Library started as a big library for Matsk, where the city held information about everything going on in the city with house deeds, bills, formal contracts and so on. This slowly merged with other cities, and after a group of architects and a myriad of builders, all with a great vision, renovated the library and made it several times bigger, it gained traction all over Yesh'na and afterwards, smaller libraries asked to house copies of their texts in there as well.

The Library was also meant to house magical scrolls, but after the newly placed librarian took one look at a 'Firestorm' Scroll, he banned magical scrolls outright - copies or not.

The Great Librarian was chosen by the Yesh'na Council and shortly after, the spot became one of the 35 (then 29) Permanent Seats, and thus, it is official Council Business to travel to the library. The chosen Librarian is generally the most organized and book-loving person, one can meet. They have to have a great memory as well as a great respect for their workplace and position. Elves and gnomes have had the position for a while, and most of the Librarian Understudies and Library Helpers are of these races due to their good memory and long life spans.
