Custom Mystery Cults

This is a list of Custom Mystery Cults created by the player base and approved for play.  Use them for your characters if they fit or for inspiration if you want to create your own.


Mystery Cult: The Forged

The Cult is dedicated to building people up. Turning them into their best selves through physical, mental, and emotional trial. Believing firmly in What Doesn't Kill you Makes you Stronger. It was founded not by Fiona but by her mentor. Someone who tested it's theories out on her and from it the cult grew. It has two distinct paths. The Hammer and The Anvil. The Hammer is the one who subjects The Anvil to the trials.

 Tending the Flame - At this level a Hammer is taught to care for the person in their charge, and an Anvil is taught endurance.  The Hammer is told that their goal isn't to kill or truly break but to test and see their Anvil blossom. It's the basic path. Hammer's at this path get a free Brawl, Weaponry, or Firearms Specialty to represent how best they plan to defend their Anvil. An Anvil would get a free specialty in Survival, Persuasion or Subterfuge to represent the start of their training to become the powerhouse they will one day blossom into.

•• The Mold - Those who seek to mold and be molded are expected to be in top physical condition and martial pursuits are often encouraged for The Hammer and the Anvil is generally encouraged to be more eloquent. The Hammer is to protect their Anvil. A relationship that is almost symbiotic forms between the two. Hammers receive a Free Dot in a Fighting Style of their choice, Anvils receive a free dot in a Social Combat Style of their choice.

••• Striking the Metal - The Hammer is a brute, a monster to help forge her Anvil into perfection. The Hammer is never perfect herself but she tends to be powerful and overbearing. The Anvil meanwhile is molded into perfection by the strikes and not so tender care of her Hammer. The Hammer gets a free dot of Brawl while the Anvil gets Striking Looks: 2 for free.

••••• Honing the True Form - At this point in their journey together the Hammer and Anvil are a well oiled machine. Perfecting their earlier symbiotic nature to higher degrees. The Hammer becomes a monster on the battlefield. No one can harm her Anvil but her, she is fierce, protective, and a dominate force projecting that across the battlefield as men and women back down rather than mess with her. The Anvil meanwhile becomes a force to be reckoned with on the social level. Her ability to manipulate and control is like no other and she weaves in and out of social circles as easily as water falls from an open hand. The Hammer gets Air of Menace: 2 and Defender: 1. While the Anvil gets Allies, Contacts, or Status in any combination of three dots to reflect their ability to weave in and out of social circles.

••••• The Perfection - At this point the Hammer and Anvil are one. They've survived the stress of their ordeal together. They've built a bond that is unbreakable. A Hammer has used the Anvil to mold themselves into a true weapon getting three dots in a fighting style of their choice for free and the anvil is perfection incarnate, something beautiful and amazing to behold. They know their Hammer and they've learned how to control their hammer especially when it's time to unleash it and pull it back. The received the Peacemaker at 3.

Mystery Cult: The Sages of Spring

Theme: Alternative Medicine Healing and Fitness Cult

Based in a Wellness Center, the organization has sprawled out to include the entire city block. On the other side of the Wellness Center (which includes a gym, physical therapy office, spa, climbing wall, etc) is a Hydroponics building that not only grows food in the middle of the city, it employs people who were otherwise having trouble finding work and supplies the Wellness Center's cafeteria and grocery store with fresh, healthy, cheap food. The air within the Wellness Center is filtered to not only be clean of outside pollutants, those pollutants are used to grow artificial gemstones that the organization sells in it's crystal healing shop.

 Applicant - Slow is Smooth and Smooth is Fast.  Gain one dot of Contacts to represent the growing network of support offered by first joining the Cult 

•• Outer Disciple - Having gained inroads to membership by personal merit or social ties, the cult embraces you as a new member. Choose Resources, Safe Place, Allies, or Mentor to represent how the cult supports you.

••• Inner Disciple - With the support of the cult, you have time to focus on the teachings of the cult. Refining either your mind or body to better pursue the deeper mysteries. Gain an athletics dot, or one of the following Merits: Meditative Mind 2 or 2 dots of Parkour

Advancing past 3 dots requires being a Sleepwalker or Awakened

•••• Master - Mastery expands your limits, use the benefits to show how your character has expanded beyond what they were capable of before. Mix and match up to 3 dots of Parkour and taking the following skills as Rote Spellcasting Skills: Medicine, Athletics, and Occult as Rote spellcasting skills.

••••• Sage - At the height of the cult, comes service to the cult. You have learned the lessons, now is the time to spread those lessons. Taking one or more apprentices is expected, but none will begrudge you some personal benefits. Taking an apprentice through this method guarantees that you will obtain one that qualifies for the same mage legacy that you practice.  Spread a combination of 3 Dots between Retainer and  Resources.

Mystery Cult: Cult of the Singularity

The cult of the Singularity is focused on humanity’s next evolutionary step, the merging of human and machine.  This is not only meant to usher in a better utopian future but mages amongst the cult believe that this is a sure way to break the Lie and the Exarch’s hold over humanity.  When anything is possible through technology, the Abyss loses its teeth and humanity will awaken en masse.
• Knowledge Trove - To achieve the Singularity first AI must awaken and adherents tirelessly strive to push forward AI research and adoption gathering vast resources of knowledge on the topic.  Gain 1 dot of Library for Computer, Crafts or Science
•• Techno Babble - One must not only work to bring about the technological advances needed for the singularity but also convince others that your crazy ideas are in fact the future.  Gain 1 dot of Fast Talking
••• Principal Engineer  - You are no longer a follower but a trail blazer, where you lead others follow, you are at the cutting edge of research and scientific study

Gain 1 dot of Computer, Crafts or Science

Non-Awakened cannot Progress Further

••••• The Awakened Founder - Mages at this level of mastery of the cult are true paragons of scientific magic.  Gain 2 dice bonus on Spellcasting Rolls using Scientific Theme or Rotes using Computer, Crafts or Science

Mystery Cult: Rudrahakra and Bär

The Rudrahakra and Bär Cult is a gang located in the Richmond Hills/Little Punjab neighborhood of Queens, NY. This gang came about to protect each other and the community against those who would do them harm, whether that harm comes from corrupt government officials, police officers, other gangs, or even within the community due to domestic violence or petty squabbles. The Rudrashakra gang is a cult in that they follow tantric teachings from the Hindu deities, Shiva and Kali, or from Norse deities and the hero Beowulf and Rudra. Their name comes from the one they worship, and means 'eye of Rudra' or if they are Norse, the bear. Each member is noticeable by the Rudra malas with bear claws as decoration between the beads that they wear as necklaces or bound up on their wrists as bracelets, and each wear an article of clothing of the same color as the fruit that bears the rudrashakra seed.

Initiate - All initiates are taught to strike first, ask questions second. As such they gain a Striking spec in Brawl or Weaponry

•• Follower - As one develops their skills in fighting and protecting their community, they learn to perfect their striking ability. As such all followers gain: Area of Expertise: Striking

••• Devotee - As the cult members develop their devotion of their chosen deities, and heroes, they gain secret knowledge that advances their fighting abilities. All devotees as a result gain a free dot of Athletics, Brawl, or Weaponry

•••• Priest/Priestess - By the time they are knowledgeable enough to be sent out to spread the word, the cult members are competent at avoiding damage and using their opponents strength against them. As a result all Priests gain Systema 3

••••• High Priest/Priestess - At the end of their spiritual growth, the cult member is brought into the final secrets of their worship and the heroes come to teach them their final lesson. All members at this level gain Berserker 3

Mystery Cult: Disciples of the Yonder Light

The Abyss takes its toll on everything it touches, but exposure doesn't have to be the end. One can recover and even learn to fight it. Survivors have banded together for a common cause, helping those exposed to incursions to bring back some semblance of stability into their lives as well as aid mages in dealing with these attacks, while mages themselves prepare for meeting the threat in the Astral itself.

Mystery Cult: Rainhas das Sete Encruzilhadas

The cult of the Queens of the Seven Crossroads is an Quimbanda cult focused on Pombajira a spirit that personifies female sexuality, beauty and desire.  A patron of Love, Freedom, Empowerment, Feminine Energy, Desire and Fire, followers of the cult strive to personify their Patron Saint and actively work to replace the Patriarchy with the Matriarchy, uninterested in philosophical questions of fairness, equality of the sexes or justice.  Pombajira is wrath and the burning blaze of passion and desire and her followers personify this.

 InitiatePombajira’s favor does not come for free and Quimbanda priestesses look down with displeasure at followers who do not tithe the spirits.  Gain one dot of Resources 

•• AcolytePombajira leads the devout and guides them at the crossroads of life.  Gain one dot of Dream

••• DevoteeThe spirits hold a wealth of lost and forgotten knowledge and Quimbanda priestess recognized by the spirits receive this knowledge.  Gain one dot of Occult

Members believe that by mastering the flow of money and leveraging connections, they can transcend mundane limitations and shape the world to their will. Ozymandias positions himself as the source of this enlightenment, a figure who has unlocked the secrets of financial mastery and is willing to share them—at a price.

 Initiate -   Members gain mentorship in personal finance and access to insider knowledge. Gain a Specialty in Persuasion (Negotiation).

•• Follower - Cult members gain exclusive access to insider opportunities, such as high-stakes networking events or private investment groups backed by the cult. Gain Contacts • (Corporate or Financial Experts)

••• Devotee - Members who prove their loyalty are taught Ozymandias’s strategies for leveraging influence. Gain Allies (Corporate) ••.

•••• Patron - Members are deeply entrenched in the cult and granted greater access to Ozymandias’s resources and power. Gain Resources •••

••••• Golden Paragon Only the most loyal and skilled members reach this level. They are fully initiated into the cult’s inner mysteries, gaining Staff ••• (Any/Any/Any) as a small army of experts clamor around the Golden Paragon.
