Holstein fought on the side of Tymanther during the First Tymanther-Unther War. He has a lot of experience in smaller battles, so often preferred smaller parties of soldiers, and they'd perform smaller targeted campaigns, and was less of a front-lines soldier. In fact, he wouldn't admit it, but one time he was so overwhelmed and traumatized the sole time he was in a large battle that he feigned death instead of continuing to fight. He continues to have nightmares about his cowardice.
