What if some lord of some northern land had got their local wizard to awaken their wolf dogs for mostly the reason of, I think this is fun,,,What if I had a village. Only awakened the puppies, think of how weird it would be to see your parents are just straight up animals living in a cage right near you.
The secluded village where he lives has a bad relationship with this lord, maybe they thought he was crazy I don’t really know but. Picture this… he leaves on urgent business, perhaps even because of a war, and leaves maybe a few servants and his animals.
He never returns. Money runs out, servants leave, maybe at the very end after already neglecting their nutrition the last servant either lets them out of their cage or they have to let themselves out.
Queue a very miserable and tragic winter where awakened wolf dogs who have never had to fend for themselves who don’t really know normal human culture TRY to survive in the unforgiving, barely habitable environment
I think there’s a lot of room for some fucked up things to happen while they TRY to figure out how to survive
Even ending up hardly leaving the original cage, and the few that decided to leave were the only ones who might have managed to survive
