Dodgy Fromage

You've probably heard of me, Dodgy Fromage (you haven't). My past is shrouded in mystery and legend. (It's just lazy backstory building leaving most of the work to the imagination).

I'm a lover, a fighter, a knave to the powerful, and a hero to the powerless. (Knave? This isn't Shakespeare buddy).

Over the last year I have traveled the many paths of the Old Margreve in search of villains to vanquish, maidens to rescue, and innocents to save. (Most of the time he's just lost).

Evil trembles in my shadow (it doesn't) and good and kind people cheer my arrival (they don't).

Backstory sent to me:

Leymee never new anything other than life in Misto Cherno. His parents were servants in the Squeaky Wheel, one of the taverns of the Black City. The Squeaky Wheel is unique in that it hangs from the city near its huge wheels and serves as a useful meeting spot between those outside the city who have dark dealings with those within. Popular rumor is that anyone who spends too much time in the tavern is eventually driven barmy by the incessant noise of the city's wheels. But that's just a silly rumor. Right?

Leymee grew up clearing tables, washing tankards, and any other task that the tavern master needed out of his crew. Eventually both his parents passed, worn by the toil of the crushing work and the general unhealthiness that comes from living in the Black City. Alone in the world, his only bright spots were when he had the chance to work with Glastrurum Grumblegut, the crusty old brewmaster who supplied the tavern with the surprisingly fine ale served at its tables. Grumblegut took a shining to the young Erina taught Leymee the ins and outs of brewing. Leymee was a cheerfully strong worker and saw brewing as the chance to stop slopping tables and do something worthwhile with his life.

This would have all worked out if it wasn't for the fact that, well, one day the beer started talking to him. Grumblegut always said that Leymee would know his ales were reaching perfection when the wort sang to him, but this was just…weird.

Eventually, Leymee started to listen. The beer would tell him not only how to perfect his ale, but other things too. Where to find a warm, safe spot to sleep. Where to find extra food. When he was in danger, and when to slip a few coins out of a drunk customer's pocket. He began to trust the voices of the beer implicitly. So much so that when it suggested he snitch a small wooden puzzle box from the pouch of a man passed out at the bar he didn't think twice about it. That is until the next day when hard men of the Khazzak bandits arrived and started tearing the Squeaky Wheel apart, looking for the box.

Leymee knew there was no good way to come clean. The beer suggested he make himself scarce and he hopped from a window of the Squeaky Wheel and skittered off into the nearby forest before anyone noticed his absence.

Leymee has been on the run for months. He decided (ok, maybe it was the beer talking) that the best way to hide is to hide in plain sight. Thus he's reinvented himself as "Dodgy Fromage," brave defender of the forest. He believes that nobody would suspect this brash, brave champion of the unprotected was once the quiet bar servant who was only noticed when underfoot. His travels have taken him across the forest to the outskirts of Levoca Village where he hopes to leave his past further behind. But the past always seems to find a way to catch up to the present…

Dodgy is a bit short for an Erina, 2'10". He is lean and well-muscled yet has a solid pot-belly that just doesn't seem to want to go away. He wears a black domino mask at all times when in public and around strangers. A mobile brewing kit hangs from his pack and he's always equipped with several tankards at his belt.

He still carries the puzzle box. It's about 3" square and carved of fine, polished woods. He fiddles with it most every night but has yet to unlock the box and discover what secrets might lie within.
