On the first night of the competition he became quite drunk and was hitting on Matsu Konoko, seeking Kitsune Nitsuki's help to get her attention until the situation was resolved with Akodo's help.
After advancing to the semi-finals in the iajutsu tournament, he was seriously injured by Kakita Riku whose sword had been replaced with a live blade by Bayushi Sakue. In the end his injuries were not too grave to prevent him from completing his gempukku.
After being appointed as Emerald Magistrates, Akodo Tadashi contacted him and invited him to join them. He expressed an interest in coming to Ryoko Owari to assist the magistrates. However, he had existing business in Musume Mura locating a Missing Mantis Sailor. The party agreed to come help him there which led to the discovery that maho-tsukai Kitsu Sokori was apparently involved. When they set off to chase her down he informed them that he needed to report matters back to his clan and would join them back in Ryoko Owari.
