If you're receiving this letter, it means that I have been murdered. Most likely by the people that we have been investigating. We don't yet know who they are or exactly what their goal is, but they seem to have incredible reach and power. They can bring armies to bear when it suits their needs. They destroyed the entire Hare Clan simply for finding that scroll. And so far it seems that they are still just laying the groundwork for a larger plan.
If they've killed me, that must mean that either Beiden Pass is relevant to those plans or because the risk of continuing to investigate them is greater than the potential exposure. Don't let them get away with it.
I don't know how they found out about my involvement. I had thought myself careful, keeping my investigation as secret as possible, but somehow that was not enough. Beware that whomever leaked my name may have done so for you as well.
All I have to offer is a single word. One I don't even know the meaning of yet. But I could tell from the way it was spoken that it was significant. That it was something men would kill over. Kolat.
Perhaps if you are able to find out what that means, you will be able to avenge me.

Medium height and stocky — a contrast to the Scorpion norm. Her features are slightly puffy, like she doesn't get enough sleep, and the lines on her face show both worry and amusement. Her mask is a metal mesh in the shape of a spider web, stretching diagonally across the left side of her face. A spider shape is cut over her left eye, and it is through this that she regards you.
First encountered on the road while heading through the Scorpion lands to Shiro Usagi where she inspected your travel papers. She later re-appeared a day before Bayushi Tomaru's army arrived at Shiro Usagi. She stated that she felt conflicted between her duty to the Emerald Champion and her clan, wishing to resolve the entire matter peacefully. Usagi Oda seemingly had no idea what she was insinuating. Recognizing the PCs, she at first accused them of using forged papers and demanding to know their involvement. After discussing the matter she stated that the scroll was related to some matter of high-level treachery involving multiple clans. If the PCs can find the scroll, she will try to talk Bayushi Tomaru into accepting a symbolic victory.
As the siege dragged on, the magistrates were able to make contact with her, stating that they had found the scroll and wished to negotiate an end to hostilities. She agreed, though she reiterated her suspicions about why so much had transpired over it and how many parties seemed to be looking for it.
With the end of the siege, she suggested that you each continue looking into the matter and stay in contact.
