Kitsu Sakura
A beautiful and charming young woman, she fell in love with a Crane from a minor family over the objections of her family who had been negotiating a marriage to a much older Matsu widower of some repute. While being hosted for their first meeting, he died unexpectedly in a hunting accident. His family quickly pressed to have his younger brother take over the betrothal. While traveling to his family estate for the wedding she vanished. The matter was gossiped about for some time with all manner of speculation into what precisely occurred with the tale frequently acting more as an insight into the teller (e.g. romantic forbidden love, a petty Crane seeking revenge, the dutiful Lion maiden).
Kitsu Sokori
The daughter of a minor lord and a talented shugenja in a family that values little else. Her father, however, openly favored her older brother and made it known that he would inherit his position. Before he could do so, said brother contracted a slow, painful wasting disease. Doctors and shugenja were no help as he eventually died of his strange illness. Her father was so distraught that he appointed a distant cousin as his successor and retired to a monastery. In the wake of this, she left the family lands and has not been seen since.
Kitsu Sukeban
A bushi and master of the single-headed meteor hammer, Sukeban, often going by "Saki" is a talented warrior more typical of the Matsu family who never fit in well among the Kitsu. Her mother was a Phoenix who was imprisoned following her husband's death under mysterious circumstances. As an outsider, particularly one from a clan noted for their magical abilities, she was quickly found guilty to quiet the matter up. Following this, Sukeban's teen years were tumultuous, seeing her nearly expelled from her school for her many acts of rebellion, delinquency, and frequent fighting. In the end, it turned out to be irrelevant as she ran away before her gempukku. Nobody has investigated since, preferring to ignore the matter and hoping this prevents any further embarrassment.
Kitsu Sokoko
She grew up in a poor family in the service of a minor lord with only a few retainers. At the age of ten her father's lord died after falling from a horse. Rather than become a ronin, her father honorably committed seppuku with his wife joining him in death. Sokoko passed into the care of her uncle, who, lacking any interest in raising a child or paying a dowry to marry her off, sold her to a geisha house where she was given the name "Nanako".
She remained of little interest until recently when several of her clients, all Lions, died under mysterious circumstances. Despite being previously healthy each of them was suddenly seized with violent convulsions, their bodies contorted hideously by the spasms as they mercifully died within minutes. Once the magistrates were able to determine that they were all clients of hers they showed up to question her, only to find that she had fled. Despite concerted efforts to find her, her whereabouts are currently unknown.
Kitsu Sokoshi
In training to be a shugenja, but was considered to be lacking in spiritual power. This led to her being forced from her school and sent to serve the family elsewhere. After chafing under a family where a lack of connection to her ancestors deemed her of little more use than being married off advantageously, she fled. At present nobody has seen or heard from her for several years.
