The Royal Holdings of the Forest of West Tir (to give its full title) was formed as a game preserve for House Quinnlee during the time of King Rickon II, and consists of a large area of dense forest north of the River Coill. It remained in the possession of the Royal Family right up until the annexation of the Kingdom of Tir into the Imperial Troll Empire, whereupon it became part of the ironically-named Royal Duchy of Caislean.
In 3A 206, the Royal Duchy was dissolved, with the lower half becoming part of the newly-formed New County of T'Kashire. The other half became a new administrative region, bearing the name of the Royal Holdings. Later the same year, the town of Réiltín in the Royal Holdings unexpectedly became the capital of a newly self-administrating Tir, making the Royal Holdings once again a central hub for the nation.
