A more recent addition to the musical scene, the guitar has largely supplanted its predecessor the lute as the iconic go-to Bard instrument as while it is larger, heavier and more expensive, it is also capable of a much richer, louder sound and has a certain sex appeal that the smaller, quieter instrument doesn't. Traditionalists continue to favour the dulcimer.
