Gith are a humanoid species who had been enslaved by mind flayers for generations and lived primarily in the Astral Plane. After escaping bondage by the mind flayers, philosophical differences led to a schism that created two separate subspecies the Githyanki and Githzerai who were at constant odds with one another.
