Jalafar

The continent of Jalafar is a vast land, dominated with the extreme environments of the tropics and subtropics. The continent of Impatria is separated from it by the Sea of Kings to the north, being surrounded by the Great Abyss on its other sides. Despite the difficulties associated with its landscapes, the vast size of Jalafar makes it home to a wide variety of people across the continent.

Regions and Countries

The western half of Jalafar is dominated by a region known as Janiibia: A vast desert of sand dunes and rocky highlands. The Janiib race has lived in this region since time immemorial, with their nation of the Janiib Sultanate once controlling all of Janiibia. The Sultanate was a major world power until very recently, where roughly half of the nation seceded and formed the Shafeaa Caliphate. The region now sees itself plagued by civil unrest, and the Sultanate is now a mere shell of its former glory.

Most of Jalafar's eastern half falls under a region known as the Savage Lands, which is by far the most diverse landscape in all of Asobria. This region varies between tropical reef islands in the north, arid forests and savannas across the center of the region, and lush cloud forests and river valleys in the southern highlands. Alongside the three Kingdoms of Ákrabu, Saantili, and Ziwana, countless smaller tribes and clans of the Agbedu race live throughout the wilderness of the Savage Lands. The Imfisi and Kibojo also live here, further adding to the region's diversity. The young age of the three kingdoms and abundance of unsettled land make the Savage Lands a region of new frontiers, with foreign powers even working to establish colonies.

Q'Farrun is the final region on the continent, being situated on Jalafar's southern end. Dominated by dense tropical rainforest, Q'Farrun has historically been plagued by a nearly endless conflict. The Xirapan and Lepdo'ami people have been locked in a generations-long war, and their aversion to most outsiders has led to Q'Farrun being shrouded in mystery to many others across Asobria. With recent efforts to establish times of peace, however, perhaps the people of Q'Farrun will step out of their isolation.

Major Geographic Features

The many regions of Jalafar are separated from one another by the tallest mountains in all of Asobria, with this being best embodied by the World's Edge Mountains. Found stretching east to west in southern Jalafar, these mountains are so tall and difficult to cross that it was once believed to be the edge of Asobria itself. The tallest mountain in the world, Oleggulu, sits in the heart of the World's Edge. Branching off to the south of these mountains are the Obsidian Peaks, which stretch southward into the rainforests of Jalafar's southernmost regions. Just north of the World's Edge is the Serpent's Tail, which span westward into Jalafar's deserts. Between the Serpent's Tail and World's Edge is Yalwadi Canyon, which is the only traversable route between the eastern and western regions of the continent.

The western half of Jalafar is nearly uninhabitable, and there are few landmarks to speak of across the desert. The Sea of Dunes, a vast expanse of constantly shifting sands, are nearly impossible to navigate. The Hawazims, the ranges of rocky highlands that dot Janiibia's landscape, offer no shelter from the unbearable desert sun. And the Barrens of Death, far on the western end of the continent, embody the worst qualities of the rest of Janiibia. The extreme harshness of this environment is what has made the River Qalbi so crucial to life in this region, being a literal lifeline of drinking water and arable soil. Nearly all of the settlements in western Jalafar are built along its banks, from its source in the Serpent's Tail to its end in Bawazin Bay and the Sea of Kings.

As the Savage Lands are the most diverse region in terms of its landscape, it also has the widest variety of landmarks. To the south, various great lakes such as Lake Ntughodo and Lake Mitumbo create a region of lush valleys and cloud forests, such as on the mighty Ugwudi Plateau. These waters then flow northward, forming the Ejemmiri River as they flow into Anyawosi Bay. Further north along the continent is the Makenye Archipelago, which eventually fade into the Shattered Isthmus further to the north. In the western regions of the Savage Lands, the Obalanla River and its tributaries create a region of arid forests. And all of these regions, as distinct as they are, surround the Onyinyebi Plains: A sprawling region of savanna and home to Dracairn Pinnacle, which serves as a permanent reminder of the events of the Cataclysm.

The dense rainforests of Q'Farrun in the south have little in the way of landmarks, as the towering trees and thick canopies obscure most natural features. There are a multitude of rivers that flow throughout the region, with the Venatlen River being the largest of these waterways. Its headwaters on the Pamtlali, a naturally fortified plateau, has acted as a haven for civilizations. Some of Q'Farrun's other rivers flow into the Gulf of Desolation: A large gulf that is seemingly devoid of aquatic life and incomprehensibly deep. If one braves the dangers of these environments, however, ruins of times long past can be explored, such as the city of Yokoyotlan or the refuge of Zal'Kesh.
