Genasi

Carrying the ancestral blood of the long-lost Giants in their veins, the Genasi are a rare folk who are living remnants of a time long past. While they may be few and far between, they hold unfathomable power within themselves. Wielding this power, their people search Asobria for the answer to their biggest question: Who are they?

Appearance and Traits

As the Genasi can be born to any of the Human races of Asobria, they often share the appearance of those who birthed them. In most cases, it is nearly impossible to distinguish a Genasi among a crowd of Humans. All Genasi, however, possess one trait that sets them apart from the race of their parents. Oftentimes, this trait takes the form of a distinct hair or eye color, and more uncommonly both. Rarer still is the Genasi's skin, which can take on a vibrant color and even a different texture than that of the Humans. The exact nature of these distinguishing traits, however, depends on the specific lineage of Genasi that one is a part of.

Since the blood of the Giants flows through their veins, all Genasi share a natural proficiency in Magic. Beyond this connection, however, Genasi express their innate power and resilience in ways unique to their lineage. Depending on whether they are a Fire, Ice, Earth, Water, Storm, or Nature Genasi, their abilities will take vastly different forms.

Origins and History

The Genasi have their origins tied to the Giantfell, the great battle that took place in Asobria's infancy and resulted in the extinction of the Giant race. It was during this battle that the ancestral Humans were showered in the ichor of the Giants, which came to be absorbed into them. Over time, the blood of the Giants cemented itself in various bloodlines, only rarely expressing itself in the form of the first Genasi. For eons, the Genasi have lived as an exceedingly rare people amongst the rest of the world. Their history is that of the people they were born to, sharing in their struggles and successes while trying to learn more about their Giant ancestors.

Culture and Beliefs

As the Genasi are born to Humans and do not have a society of their own, they don't really have their own culture. Additionally, since their birth is due to chance, they can be born to members of any societal class. As such, Genasi individuals will mostly carry the ideals and perspectives of their parent society, alongside anything that is gained through their upbringing. Even within these different cultures, Genasi almost never form their own sects within them. Their people are so rare, in fact, that most Genasi go their entire lives without meeting another member of their race. For many Genasi, their lives are often a somewhat lonely one.

In the case of some Genasi, they will live most if not all of their lives not even knowing their true heritage. Combined with the subtlety of their physical differences, Genasi can easily confuse the abilities that stem from their Giants' blood as merely an innate magical power that stems from another source. Even though they may not know this truth, however, many Genasi view their gifts as something that must be mastered. Doing so means that their innate power could be used for something great, and failure to understand and hone one's skills often damages their sense of self.

Secrets and Self-Discovery

As mentioned previously, Genasi individuals don't always know of their true heritage. But for those that do know of their origins, many devote themselves to the goal of learning more about their past and their Giant ancestors. For most, this goal seeks to answer big questions they have about themselves and their place in the world. These Genasi spend most of their lives traveling, seeking others of their kind or searching for the few remnants of the Giants that remain in Asobria. While it is hard to say if anything substantial has been discovered about the ancient civilization of the original Giants, many Genasi return to their homes changed, often for the better.

Relations and Legacy

With how rare the Genasi are, their people really can't leave any lasting impressions on Asobria as a whole. A majority of people never even have an opportunity to meet a Genasi, and know of them only through the gossip and tales one hears at the taverns. With those tales, however, their people are a topic of interest for many who dream of being one of the lucky few to meet such a rare folk. Some Genasi individuals, such as Sir Ilisium of the Arcane Asobrian Adventurers, have an even bigger spotlight on them due to heroic acts across all of Asobria. But unless the Genasi people eventually form their own communities or make major discoveries regarding Giant history, their race may remain one of legend.
