LASTHAVEN

We have breakfast with Katla and Cynthia. Afterwards, Bale stays behind or is forced to stay behind (we close the door before he can leave) to speak to Katla, saying he’ll miss her. 

We return to our home, put out the chain, and teleport to the Frost Giant stronghold. 

FROST GIANT MOUNTAIN

We are now on the side of the mountain and surrounded by screaming wind and blowing snow. We find a small cave that is uninhabited to hunker down. In the distance, we see a great rift that is the entrance to the Frost Giant caves. 

We enter the rift and into a cavern system, a great glacier.  We fight our first Frost giant, a guard. 

Then we fight another guard giant, and then a family of Winter wolves. We then fight a group of 10 ogres.  We move further in and fight a pair of Frost Giants.

The we fight a group of 4 ice toads.

We manage to get half of the upper level cleared – we find a tunnel to the lower levels, but we decide to continue clearing out the upper level. We fight two more Frost Giants. 

Then we encounter a visitor’s area, where a lava flow is flowing. There are two fire giants here, and we fight them. They almost kill Simon, but we defeat them.

We move on and fight some Hill Giants, these are emissaries from Chieftain Nosrum’s steading. They have a letter asking Jarl Grogrnur the Frost giant for further orders, and reporting that their supply of slaves (the orcs) have dried up.  This is because the orcs have fled. 

We move on, and encounter another set of emissaries, this time a pair of Stone Giants, one named Granite and a younger one named Coal.  We convince then we are friendly, and mention that we spared the Stone giants at the Hill Giant Steading. They give us the gift they planned on giving the Jarl for safe passage – a tiara that looks like it was from one of the human royal families. They take their leave.

We move further up and fight two frost giants, and then encounter an area that is infested with brown mold, that draws heat from everything around it.  We keep away from it, and note the giants even carved a warning about it. 

We then enter into the sleeping area and get into a pitched battle against 5 Frost Giants. We barely defeat them, but expend much of our magic in the process. 

Then we face down against a pair of giant snow leopards. When we kill them, we realize they were protecting a pair of cubs.  We feel bad.  We decide to protect the cubs (though Maude floats the idea of drowning them), and raise the dead parents tomorrow. Or something.

We then face down a group of 6 yetis.  After we kill all but the leader, the leader peaceably surrenders. 

We take the two cubs and then retreat outside of the rift.
