KINGSTON
Today is the day the Royalty is attempting to resurrect Edmond Elynbrigge and Antony Elynbrigge. We are to accompany Bale.
In the Royal palace, the entire Elynbrigge|royal family] is there, except Isabel Elynbrigge-Jendryng, Pyyrhos Elynbrigge-Alegan, Jacquette Nethre Elynbrigge-Morley and Rin Bluewolf.
Edmund’s body is wheeled forward and Stephen Wrightson begins the true resurrection ritual. Edmund’s body doesn’t show any physical damage, but part of his body is covered in clothing. An hour passes and Edmund is resurrected, willingly returning to the world of the living. Him and Sygmond Elynbrigge-Jendryng then embrace.
Antony is then wheeled out, and his head has been badly damaged by what we believe is the result of a black powder weapon, close range. Catherine Elynbrigge-Lytton explains to a confused Edmund that after Antony stabbed Edmund to death (in the heart), witnesses said they heard a loud explosion, and then Isabel left with an unknown person.
They found Antony dead with a black powder weapon in his hand. The implication is that he killed himself, but that seems unlikely. It is more likely that this was staged. The Ritual is begun, but nothing happens. Stephen Wrightson then attempts to touch the body, but Codex realizes that something is wrong. He gets Berdyn to interpose, shielding Wrightson from a necrotic blast. Only Codex’s Death Ward saves Berdyn from being killed by the blast. The body is gone, disintegrated in the blast. It seems that Antony made a deal with Vecna and was prevented from coming back to life, so that his secrets remain secret.
Codex finds one of the rings where Antony’s body was, this ring of Vecna is likely how the trap was able to spring, and it was very likely it was inside of Antony’s body. He scoops the ring into a golden chalice and then covers it with a gold collection plate.
The room is cleared of the family aside from Bale, Gilbert Elynbrigge-Lytton and Morys Elynbrigge-Lytton. Morys is filled in regarding the rings of the Vecnan cult. It is realized that this Vecnan ring is made by Vecna, not the Master, otherwise they would have blown up when the Master died.
We put the ring into a lead lined case, and then hope for the best. Once Jacquette’s confirmation is finished, we will take it to the St. Cuthbert Inquisitor to figure out what to do about it.
We head to the confirmation on the steps of the palace. Simon notices something in the ethereal plane, due to his rod of alertness. Codex smears an ointment on Berdyn’s eyelids, infused with saffron to make him look FIERCE, but also granting him true sight. Berdyn then sees into the Ethereal plane and describes two creatures – Maud and Codex identifies them as Ethereal watchers, who show up when something of importance is happening. The Confirmation is something important.
Morys addresses the crowd. First he introduces his brother, without title. He then tells all that Antony is deceased. Jacquette strides forward and askes to be recognized, identifying herself as Nethra, but also as Jacquette. She asks to be renamed Jacquette Nethra Ellynbrigge-Morley. Morys recognizes her as 8th in line to the throne.
Morys then declares that Edmund has abdicated from the throne, and now Isabel is no longer of the line.
There is applause, and Berdyn notices that the planar observers have shifted attention to the burnt-out building, the crown prince’s mansion. And Berdyn sees Cinnabar Jynx, she is clearly invisible as she moves past the guards into the ruin, and pulls out a box from the rubble. The observers watch, and Berdyn follows. Jynx then leaves out of the palace grounds and to a nearby tavern called the Weeping Coin, and the Observers then sink below the ground. It is likely Jynx went to the undercity. The tavern is filled with hostile humans, so Berdyn retreats. The observers then leave, whatever happened of importance happened somewhere below.
We reconvene at the Mansion. Bale is angry, why didn’t we stop Jynx? Codex couldn’t see her, only Berdyn. And it is his sister.
Codex asks to speak to his sister through Sending in person. She arranges for us to meet her at the Bazaar Fountain, as civilians. We go to speak to her. It turns out that Jynx took a job from Sabre Khaludz, but followed the letter of the law and only handed back the box, keeping the item. Khaludz and her fought, and she drove him off. Jynx has the item, and gives it as a belated birthday gift to Codex.
The item is the Eye of Vecna. Codex tells Jynx that his mother feared that Jynx would corrupt Codex, but she had it wrong. Codex could have saved Jynx, and it was probably why Flint took her away.
We escape to the Summit, teleporting there from the Fountain. We talk about the Eye and what to do next.
The Eye can be teleported and can be moved to an extradimensional space, but it will not go into a bag of holding. It has to be left behind, or carried with us.
We take the extradimensional space to Kingston, and rest the night.
