Lasthaven
We wake up and have breakfast. Maud and Bale head out to the Steward bright and early to get the Guild registered.
Maud returns shortly after, telling us things have gone terribly wrong.
We rush to the Steward’s place, and find the cook Bulvara and the Secretary Mira dead, their throat slit. The Steward was dying, stabbed several times with a poisoned blade, looks like he was left to die slowly and in agony. Codex heals the wounds and Simon cures the poison. The Steward will live, but he is unconscious from the terrible strain.
The copy of the watch record and the testimonies of Michael and Albrect are gone. Several pages of the Steward’s journal are ripped up.
Dropped on the floor is a dagger of dwarven make, stained with the blood of the victims. Written on the pommel in Dwarven is the runes “Property of Berdyn”. This was not only a coverup, it was a setup.
We realized that White Star has taken action, and we now need to get the Steward out of the city. But Mouse, Brute, Electrum, Katla and Cynthia are in terrible danger.
Bale, Simon, and Berdyn clean up the Steward’s place, and find a secret passage to the St. Cuthbert orphanage in the basement of the Lord’s Manor, a bolt hole in case of invasion. They take the Steward and the bodies of Bulvara and Mira to the Orphanage, asking Rhogar to hide the bodies, while they take the Steward out of town.
Meanwhile, Codex and Maud head to the house, telling Mouse and Brute to get a cart and pack, quickly, to get out of town. Codex rushes to his room, and find to his relief that the original gate logs and the testimonies are still in his room. He won’t let them out of his sight again. Then they head to Katla’s, and find out from a babysitter that she was called early and unexpectedly to White Star. The babysitter asks Codex to look after Cynthia while she runs some errands. Codex agrees, and then promptly abducts Cynthia, putting her on the cart that Mouse stole from White Star.
Eastern Wilderness
Mouse, Brute, the chickens, Electrum, and Cynthia head out of town.
Berdyn, Simon, Bale and the unconscious Steward meets the cart. Bale and Maud sneak to the General Store connected to White Star, trying to see if Katla is there. Bale is told that Katla was taken into the compound. They return to us, and we know that Katla is now a hostage.
The Tower
We take the Cart to the Tower, after a tense but ultimately friendly reunion with the hippogriffs. The Steward is resting, but still unconscious. Cynthia, mouse, and Brute are at the tower with him, along with Electrum and the chickens.
We have to save Katla, or… if it is too late, avenge her. And we will make Hooks and White Star pay for what they have done.
