Everlife Merchant District
Codex uses one of his electrum coins and some ruby dust to fashion a necklace for Bale of Continual Flame, so that he always has light should he need it. The coin has a hole punched through it, so it can be hung on a cord around the neck, and it sits inside of a black leather pouch until needed.
We decide to take on the city bank. We have a mithril key that we know fits some sort of vault in the bank, taken from the Lord’s Manor.
After Berdyn cracks a particularly difficult lock, we enter into the bank.
The main level of the bank has a variety of records. We find out that there is a Utopah Dayseeker Jr., and a Utopah Dayseeker Senior and a Marie Dayseeker. There were significant withdrawals from Dayseeker Sr.’s account shortly before the fall of the city. There is record of Dayseeker Jr. being a trust fund kid, with regular money allowance and evidence of him making numerous expensive withdrawals.
We also found that Sabre Khaludz withdrew 20,000 gp from his personal account on day of fall, from his personal vault. Codex wants very much to know what is in this vault.
We head to the lower level and try to break into the vaults. However, the vaults are guarded by a pair of Helmed Horrors, constructs resistant to magic and immune to force based spells. After a tough fight, we defeat them.
We find that the Mithril key doesn’t fit any vault doors, so we have to pick them. The lock mechanism is designed such that if a lockpicking is failed, then a strong acid melts and fuses the locks so that they cannot be picked again.
Berdyn tries to pick Sabre Khaludz vault and… fails. The lock melts, and picking it is impossible. Codex despairs, but then Simon uses his hammer and his belt of giant strength to systematically smash the door. After several minutes of swinging, he is able to crack the vault and gain entry.
In Sabre Khaludz’ vault, we find correspondence between him and the High Priest Steven Wrightson of Kingstown. They have vague talks about “the plan” and “rebuilding Everlife”. There’s also a strange cryptic statement telling Sabre Khaludz to “Use the servant’s door at the high Peloran Temple”.
Steven Wrightson is the High Priest of Kingstown, and Sabre Khaludz is the High Priest of Everlife. Both are corrupted leaders of the Peloran faith, and have been working together for further Vecnas goals. It is unknown if the highest authority of the Peloran faith is corrupted, but these two certainly are.
We also find correspondence between Chaludz and Hooks about “the arrangement”, hinting strongly of the Lord’s kidnapped daughter.
We find a ledger of women’s names and dates, 40 in all over the course of 30 years. There are also 40 sets of women’s clothing, mostly clothing that prostitutes would wear, that he has kept in the vault. Likely Chaludz put the choker of forgetting on them to turn them into pets, and then killed them when he lost interest.
Codex realizes why there are so many banshees in the city of Everlife. Chaludz is probably responsible for a great deal of women suffering and death within the city. We collect all of this, more evidence of Chaludz being an evil bastard.
We crack open several other vaults, and find a variety of riches. Among them is a finely made shield, identifies by Codex as “Iron Eagle” when you whisper to the shield it’s name, it will magically protect the wielder. Or… so Codex says.
We also find a second bag of holding, which Maud excitedly claims. We also find a finely made headband that grants genius level intellect to whoever wears and attunes to it. Codex claims it and becomes and even more insufferable know it all.
We rest up and head further down to the Lord’s Vault, at the lowest level. We are attacked by a group of six gargoyles, more guardians. We defeat them. We try the mithril key in the lock, and it opens the door. However when we do that a set of magic eyes open briefly and then close. Have we been caught? Within the vault area some of the Lord’s wealth, which we proceed to loot a great deal of. We now have a huge amount of wealth, and Bale, probably the first time in a long time, seems to be in a very good mood.
Everlife Noble District
We return to the Spire, our stolen wealth hidden within the bags of holding, and rest for the evening.
