Everlife Escape Tunnels
Clearing out the Escape tunnels under the Noble District in preparation for escaping the city. Fight a pair of wraiths. Wraiths aren’t as affected by fire.
Reach underground entrance to jail. It is a heavy steel door that opens into a short hallway, with open valves built into the walls. It is likely to be heavily trapped. The hallway ends in another heavy door. We close the door to the jail and keep going.
We find another side passage leading to an entrance to a house in the poor quarter. The house is burned down, and in the wreckage find a cache of belongings. It is a portrait and a set of love letters between Lord Pyyrhos and his lover. This is likely a person he went to after his wife died. The woman has a son, which is a bastard of the Lord. There is an odd-resemblance between the son and Bale. Is Bale related? Something to consider for later.
We find another turnoff, leading to another house filled with Black Puddings! There are three of them and they melt our non-magical armor and weapons. Codex traps part of one of the puddings using stone shape, we now have a solid stone sphere filed with black pudding. One of the puddings almost kills and eats Codex, but we defeat them.
The side passage leads to a building in the poor district, but the puddings ate nearly everything so we do not know what it was for. We do find a magical haversack that Bale happily puts on.
We continue travelling through tunnels and are attacked by four wights. They pepper us with arrows, but we take them out.
Everlife Southern Watch Tower
We finally make it to the guard tower outside of town, in the basement cells. We encounter what seems to the woman and son from the portrait found in the burnt out house, but Maud smells Sulphur. When codex takes out the Portrait to compare, he finds strange inaccuracies. They are attached to a tendril to pair of oozes. These are Ooblex!
Ooblex were created by Mind Flayers and used to eat memories of people. When they take memories they can make simulacrum of the people they took memories from. It takes Maud’s memories and almost kills her. While fighting, Codex enters the mind of the Ooblex with the tendril connected to the boy. Codex manages to find out the boy’s name – Tibur Jameson, and he was drained of memories but dragged away before death. Considering how little the boy spoke, that makes sense. That would mean that the mother died to the other ooblex, who was able to form full sentences.
Codex knows that the memories are restored in time. He restores Maud and the others kill the ooblexes. We rest for a short time.
Everlife Escape Tunnels
We travel further down the tunnels and feel the presence of something evil. We are attacked by a pair of Bodaks, servants of Orcus and possessing a death gaze and a necrotic aura, that harms all that come near. It also has a withering gaze. We defeat them, but they injured us pretty badly.
We retreat back to the Spire, planning to return and guide the people to the Guard Tower tomorrow. We hope we cleared out enough of the tunnels.
Everlife Noble District
Over the evening Codex researches the Elynbrigge royal family, and find a family tree in the Spire records. He spots a person on the line named Able Elynbrigge-Alegan, a brother to Pyyrhos Alegan, missing for years. According to the family tree, he would be 30 years old now. He also confirms that Tibur Jameson is an illegitimate son of Pyyrhos Alegan.
So… if Tibur looks a lot like Bale… is Bale and Able the same person. Their names are anagrams of each other. Codex takes the time to consult with Ioun, in hopes of finding confirmation.
