Underdark Bound

Session

SouthSpire

We make our way to the central guardhouse to speak to Dennin – a lieutenant in the guard and a friend to Berdyn.  We want to present him with the amount of crazy money that Ferrin made in his steel smuggling.

Dennin tells us that they only found about half of the money we found he smuggled.  Ferrin lived an extravagant life, and he spent a lot of money. But even then, he would still have over 150,000 gp worth of money unaccounted for.

Ferrin stopped going to his family holdings shortly after he betrayed Berdyn and left him in LastHaven.  He lived in an apartment.  He could not pass the watcher stones, the stones that detect intent, alignment, and invisibility going into the holding.  This means that he pledged to Vecna to get Berdyn removed, and was a member since then.

That was also around when shipments of steel sharply increased. So they bribed Ferrin with revenge and a truckload of money for the steel shipments, as well as moving the body of Jacquette.

The human strangers that came to SouthSpire are linked to the conspiracy (this is from the notebook that has the map), and they arrived after Ferrin disappeared.  They were looking to buy more steel.

Dennin also says that Ferrin lied to the steel smelting guild that the bottom had dropped out of the market and the humans had found a new source of metal, which was a lie.  It allowed him to devalue the steel, and buy a great deal of it.

We are shown a paired set of swords (daisho) from the kingdom of the tiger, it was what Ferrin showed as proof of humans having access to metal.  We tell them that the kingdom of the tiger never sell their weapons, they are only ever given as gifts.  These were likely stolen or taken from someone that was killed.  We are given a symbol, a kingdom of the tiger maker’s mark on the two blades.

We make our way to the tunnel down the steps, down the steps to the Underdark and the Train station.

Delver’s Rest

After a long walk down, we get to the halfway point. This is the place where the Pits of Justice are – the prison for the dwarves.  It also has a location to stay the evening – the Delver’s Rest.  A rough tavern and inn for people travelling up and down the staircase.

The smell on this level is intense, lots of sweat, lots of unwashed bodies. We enter the Delver’s Rest.

Delver’s rest is a cavern system, with clean water access.  There is a place to rest.

We see a blind old dwarf that is making a lot of rants about Marthammor Duin – the youngest son of Moradin and a God of Road, Lightning and wanderers. He is an enemy of Grummsh.  The blind old dwarf seems to be demanding that all follow Marthammor Duin or face doom.  Doom!

The bar is made up of mix and matched seating, thrown together.  A one eyed dwarven bartender minds the bar, he is all scarred up, his name is Auril.

Another older dwarf is here minding the bar, named Thrinen. She is covered in tattoos. She shows us our room.  Maude tells us all the tattoos are of evil gods. We try to keep to our rooms, but come down to grab a meal.

When Berdyn, Simon and Codex come down to get meals and drinks, and initially there is a small smattering of dour prison guards.  But then a group of Dwarves come in, and the bar becomes more festive.

We are told by Berdyn that this group of dwaves are a mercenary company known as the sons of Clangeddin, who fear no one.

Later on most of the group head down to speak to the Sons of Clangeddin.  Led by Banain Flintgranite, they take on a number of odd jobs and deniable tasks, such as removing the humans from the ruins of plainspire when they were sent there by the mad baron.

We spend the night in the inn, but twice in the evening, someone tries the doors, and there are hidden doors that are also tried a bit.  They back off.
