1. Journals

Cards with an Angel

Session

Kingston – R2 - Royal District of Prince Gilbert

Bale gets word that a trio of magic users will be willing to dismantle the gold house of atrocity.

Use sending stone to contact Katla and Micheal. Katla lets us know Lasthaven is recovering from a tornado, there are 5 more found injured. Michael tells us he needs a number of supplies, which we arrange with Colette to pick up. The plan is to help the Kingdom of the Tiger move people to Everlife tomorrow.

We head to the gold atrocity house and release the contents of the Iron Flask. On the way out we see draconic letters carved into the side of the wall on the compound, unobtrusively, but still noticeable to Berdyn. It says “Blood”.

The stopper is removed, and we meet Phanuel, the Angel of repentance and hope. One of the Planetars. He tells us that he was summoned by Allen Ogwyn to protect him from the Master, and the Master imprisoned him within the Iron Flask. Allen is the writer of the journal we found way back in Everlife.

Phanuel tells us that the Master is male, an elf, and about 400 years old. Phanuel tells us that when the Master banished him to the Flask, it was 5 years ago and the Master was injured badly by the Planetar’s radiant damage. The Master was with Theobald in chains and with another person, that the Planetar couldn’t identify.

We are given an image in our minds of a light skinned, dark haired high elf, nondescript. His eyes are dark, but otherwise he is unremarkable.  This is the Master.

We then play 3 dragon Ante with the Planetar for the remainder of the hour and then we get to speak to him without his servitude. He is willing to help with Theobald and figure out exactly what is wrong with him. However, he requires the Iron Flask in exchange.  We willingly hand it over, and Phanuel destroys it.

At this point Father Clarence arrives, summoned by his God to assist Phanuel. Clarence has a change of clothes.  Phanuel shapechanges into a mortal and dresses in these clothes. Phanuel explains that him planeshifting is disruptive to the Prime Material Plane, so he wants to do it somewhere outside of the city.

He is willing to stop and assist with Theobald before leaving the city. However, even as a mortal he still has an angelic aura, and people are noticing. We make our way to Emma and Gilbert’s Compound. They are surprised to learn about Phanuel but are happy to have him assist Theobald.

Phanuel looks at Theobald and tells him his name is actually Stephen. He tells us he cannot do what is necessary to heal him, as every bone in his body has been inscribed in gold, and there is a dark force that is keeping him compliant. This alchemical dark magic has made him effectively immortal. He shows Codex this effect, giving him temporary sight to see the inscriptions of Alchemical texts.

There are a few ways to remove this effect. A direct intercession of a deity, or possibly having him in the presence of the Flame of Pelor to destroy his body and free his soul, or to speak to mortals that have read and used the Alchemical texts.

It is also possible to expose a bone and strike it with the hammer of Moradin, but it would be a horrifying process.

Phanuel leaves, but he will owe us a favor in exchange for Codex keeping Allan’s journal safe. It contains the summoning circle to bring Phanuel to the Prime Material Plane.

We then gather the items that Michael requested.

Bale, Maud and Codex heads to the jail and speak to Talia Hooks. She is not receptive, and refuses to talk about anything unless it benefits her in some way. She reminds Bale that others know her secrets. We leave, refusing to assist her.

In the evening, the three spellcasters come to speak to Bale at Gilbert and Emma’s compound. One is the Warlock Titania, and the other two are nearly identical men with sealed mouths. One is slightly older, one slightly younger, brothers, perhaps. Titania explains that she represents the men, who have taken a vow of silence unless they cast a spell. Titania took a pact to the Fae Queen Titania, and took her name.

After negotiations, they will do this for 15% of the total value of the house. They will not transport the transmuted gold, as it was accidentally not part of the deal. We make alternate arrangements.

In the late evening, Lydia Cornwallis throws pebbles at Bale’s window. She wants to go for a walk with him. It is the celebration of Yedda’s birthday, a human event where woman can marry a man they can lift up and carry 10 feet. Bale decides not to risk getting carried.
