Teckitan

Teckitan is the successor state to Uthan, the second city present in the Efil Pass. Despite the destruction of Uthan and the punishments imposed by the Coalition of Nations after the Blood War, Teckitan has remained extremely rich due to it's location, and has regained some of it's prominence and importance in geopolitics. Teckitan is a city state, with a few outer farms and forts  present within their territory. There is no prominent ethnic plurality within Teckitan due to it's centrality, and the population has remained a sort of mix.

Teckitan is governed by a Senate, led by a Lord Protector, who rules until death, and once the previous Lord Protector has died, a new one is elected by the Senate. The balance of power between the Lord Protector and the Senate has remained fairly equal throughout the history of Teckitan, only tipping slightly more toward the Senate during the reign of the first Lord Protector, the weak Waili Atas put into office by the Coalition post-Blood war. The Senate retains power because of it's complete authority over the collection of taxes, something crucial to allow the government to keep running. The Lord Protector holds power because his consent and approval is needed to pass any new laws, acts, or bills, except for ones that would call for their resignation. The official judiciary system, mainly meant to uphold the law and keep the government in check, is extremely weak, and has been mostly replaced by the Guild of Justice, a member guild of The Gilded Pact.

There is no official military force for Teckitan, as decreed by the treaty that ended the war. Instead, to keep the peace against Ravennan warlords and bandit groups, the Guild of Mercenaries is heavily employed to deal with such manners. Local police forces are mostly militia based, focused on more minor local criminals.

The scars of the Blood War are very present within Teckitan. Despite it being a few decades ago, the war has left a lasting impact on the older generation, with feelings of lasting resentment against the Coalition being spread to the younger generations as well. Ironically, international trade from Coalition member states has remained a crucial part of Teckitanian society, as industry within the nation is practically nonexistent, and most materials depend on imports. Merchants make up a large amount of the population as well, along with those seeking fortunes.

The culture of Teckitan is a hodgepodge melting pot of different cultures, with no one culture rising to the top over the years because of the repeated migration and immigration of different peoples into the city-state.  Crime is high, not Ravenna levels of high, but there is a high rate of crime within the city-state, though unsanctioned crime is being targeted by the Gilded Pact. An underground black market has formed, primarily ruled by the Gilded Pact and the remnants of The Blood Mages, the two cooperating at certain times on certain topics.
