The Swathe was formed after the Celestial War, when the last of the Ancient Gods sealed the Forgotten One away in exchange for their memories, and in turn being sealed away themselves. The Swathe is directly connected to the prison of the Forgotten One, and as the Swathe is damaged by the Ancient Gods struggling to get free, the prison of the Forgotten One is damaged as well.
