During the early 200s, a good century after the Age of Frost, The Order, under urging from Gaial, decided to undergo a reformation of the policies that had been unchanged since the founding of the Order. The reasoning behind this was simple. The previous policies mandated extremely high punishments for the smallest of infractions, and scared away many potential converts, causing an inevitable depopulation crisis that would leave the Order hollowed out or abandoned in one or two generations, even more if they got into a full-scale war.
The Grandmaster of the Order during this period, Bozkurt, upon his ascension saw the writing on the wall and decided that enough was enough. A member of the reformist part of the Order himself, he utilized his support within the Order and his authority as Grandmaster to push through the Reformation Acts and justify it.
While favorable for the Order in the long-term, many of the traditionalists inside the Order were outraged by these acts, and accused the Grandmaster of abusing their power and using Gaial as an excuse. They saw the Acts as a way for Bozkurt to undermine their authority and political standing within the Order and the reforms as wholly unnecessary. Grandmaster Bozkurt managed to prevent a full on civil war from breaking out through careful mediation, but many of the more fanatical traditionalists decided to split away from the Order and form their own group, called the True Church of Gaial, which, in the end, actually ended up strengthening the reformist faction within the Order and marginalized the traditionalists.
