The Zealot's Rebellion was a rebellion staged by the Hand and Serpent of The Cult of Zelial. It was due to an undercurrent of dissatisfaction with the current state of the organization, feeling like it was more Aurland's personal intelligence service rather than a proper religious group. The rebellion was meticulously planned, weapons supplied, collaborators gathered, and others bribed. The rebellion broke out a year after the beginning of the Great Crusade, and the conflict was brutal. The entirety of the leadership of the group was simply gone in an instant, leaving loyalist forces confused about who to take orders from, and inspiring a myriad of other internal issues. Fighting took place everywhere, and the pre-prepared zealots were able to get the drop on loyalists who didn't even know there was a conflict going on.
Fighting took place in The Ordained Halls themselves, and even in places like Valdar, where zealots caused assassinations and jumped loyalists, killing them away from the public eye. It seemed that the rebellion would be successful, until Aurland showed up. The Zealot plan was to finish the rebellion before Aurland caught wind, delaying all messages possible and buying time for the rebellious forces to succeed in their plan. However, Aurland found out regardless and immediately gave over the reigns of the Great Crusade to the Warlords of the Council of War. Immediately the change was instantaneous. Aurland set up a chain of command, organized loyalist forces and provided a morale boost. The Battle of the Ordained Halls was a decisive victory of the loyalists, pushing the zealots out of their holy place, and killing many of them to boot. As one last attempt to spite the loyalists, multiple zealots set fire to the Archives, setting back Cult intelligence by decades, and allowing many zealots to retreat.
To root out the numerous dissenters throughout the world, Aurland anonymously interacted with the governments of multiple nations, informing them of the spies. Within a week, Aurland wrested back control of the Cult of Zelial, the zealots either dead, tortured, or on the run. This would give rise to multiple splinter cells of the organization, which Aurland would spend multiple months rooting out. The last splinter cell of the former Hand and Serpent of the Cult was found and destroyed in 712.
