Tales of the Tarot

The Caribbean is a stretch of sea that promises wealth and opportunity for those that sail its waters.  Trade routes link the New World and the Old, natural resources, gold, and flesh flowing to and fro.

Naturally, mages of all stripes take advantage of this, Silver Ladder and Seer enriching themselves greatly, much like their unAwakened peers.   But a new breed of mage also sails the seas: the Picaroons of The Company of the Codex.  Seeking enlightenment through absolute freedom and solipsistic indulgence of their obsessions, these Awakened partner with other powerful entities of supernatural puissance in a pact of mutual defense and protection.

All is not well in the Atlantic though.   The walls between the worlds of thinning - ghost ships sail the seas, leaving no survivors on the ships that they board, while courts of sea spirits reach from the Shadow to hunt and claim colonists and indigenous people alike.  Some members of the Company are more than happy to profit from this increased chaos, but the Wiser among the Company have their concerns.  And when five new Picaroons - those that have signed the Codex - all realize that they possess Tarot cards from the same deck, each a potent magical item, these new Picaroons are given a ship and a crew of Swordbearers, and suggested to plumb the depths of this Mystery.

Or do not - every Picaroon has voice: use it.
