Human

Not native to the continent. In fact, while there were rumors and tales of humans for hundreds of years, the first humans arrived only 80 years ago. They came in great warships, ready to conquer; the elves and dwarves annihilated their ships while they were still a mile from the coast. The few who survived were captured, interrogated, and returned by teleportation to their homeland where they could explain what a poor choice their leaders had made. Humans come from the kingdoms across the sea, but their levels of both technology and magic are far inferior to those of this continent. Since first contact, smaller, more humble excursions have arrived, asking to open trade and diplomacy between the lands. Generally their ships are destroyed and their requests denied, but the humans themselves are allowed to live out the rest of their pitifully short lives within the lands. They tend to live on the outskirts of the larger cities, or attempt to find an unclaimed patch of land to work. More have been arriving lately, asking for nothing but shelter in these unfamiliar lands. These requests have begun to worry the higher ups in the various kingdoms, and the idea is starting to form that they must be dealt with, but for now, they are simply resettled in poor or inhospitable areas and left to their own devices. All of the races present on this continent are also found in the human lands, but much less frequently, and their cultures and language are quite different. Humans are treated with surprise, curiosity, distrust, and suspicion in varying degrees, but universally they are considered lesser beings, on par with goblinoids or kobolds. (Except by goblinoids and kobolds, who consider humans a prime target for enslavement and domination.)
