Sometimes referred to as the Beastlands, home to the largest concentration of Anthros on the Faded Shores. It’s a loose alliance of widely-scattered small towns and villages, with only one settlement that approaches city-size, also called Anumanu. The city straddles the Obodo river, which is patrolled every day for new arrivals; unconscious anthro bodies tend to wash up nearly every day. Newcomers are given full support during their first year in the region, as they learn concepts like living in homes and not eating each other. After that first year, they’re expected to give back to the community in some way as well as supporting themselves; working the patrols is the most common volunteer service, but there are opportunities in everything from building homes for newcomers to cooking in the communal kitchens.

The towns and villages are a mix of new arrivals and stable communities; most people are pretty easygoing and welcoming to strangers. If Anumanu had a motto, it would be “Mind your own business, as long as it ain’t hurting no one.”

About 50,000 sq mi, population roughly 1,250,000, largest city 17k, 2nd largest 8500, 10 towns of around 5k each. The area is covered by mountains, river valleys, forests, lakes, and bayous, climate is generally warm to hot, generally only snows in mountains but other areas may get a dusting every decade or so. Hot Springs to the SW of Anumanu City is a popular resort destination for non-anthros; running the tourist trade provides much of the coin of the realm. The mountains to the Northwest are considered very dangerous, where all the anthros who don’t normalize into society run to.

Government: Anumanu is an anarchist state - all government is by consensus. In effect, villages and towns govern themselves, and all citizens decide national issues, like laws and taxation, through debate and voting. Although it moves much slower than more centralized governments, the end results are more or less the same - taxes are collected and spent on public works, laws are enforced and not greatly different from those in the surrounding lands, and most people get on with their lives in the normal way. Each town and village elects a speaker, who can be removed from office at any time by simple majority vote. The speaker handles routine bureaucratic issues and is responsible for presenting any debate issues to the people they speak for.
