Rostern is a small village located in eastern Atherdale, about 2 days travel south from the larger town of Reedenford. Rostern is primarily a farming community built along the Owlknot River, growing mostly potatoes and wheat that are then exported to Reedenford for profit and taxes.

History

Rostern was founded around 850 IaC, mainly comprised of hopeful farmers hoping to coax crops out of the relatively infertile land. Their endeavors were moderately successful, and though there was a larger demand for wheat, most of the land could only feasibly grow potatoes. Thus, the limited grain became terribly important to the members of the village, as it was the crop that the province had a vested interest in.

In Iron 989, Rostern was beset by unnaturally aggressive wolves that continued to occupy the village after chasing the residents out of town. The residents fled to Reedenford and begged the mayor Tunban Fetterly to place a bounty on the heads of the wolves. A group of Initiates from the nearby Claw of Arali base Cloverhall were dispatched to deal with the wolves and managed to clear them out. However, the Initiates discovered the strangely militant and organized wolves had been under some sort of powerful controlling magic, and after destroying a strange tree in the center of town, witnessed a hooded figure fleeing off into the north. In the struggle to take back the town, a house was "accidentally" burned down.

It was discovered that the townsfolk of Reedenford were attempting to commit tax evasion by claiming that the wolves had devoured their stores of grain, prompting the mayor to grant them a reprieve. However, before fleeing the village, the grains had simply been hidden underground. While this plot was uncovered by members of Cloverhall, it was not reported and no real action has since been taken.
