“The wise man strings life from a personal spool,
For the pale threads of Fate are so knowingly cruel”

~ Paledirn the Bard

A magical +1 dagger that requires attunement to use.

Description

A thin, smooth needle-like dagger carved from a brilliant white bone. The back end of the dagger is thicker, wrapped by a tightly wound leather strap. A string of silver thread about 2 feet long is tied to a ring carved out of the back of the bone. Nearly unnoticeable grooves are carved into the length of the dagger.

Effects

If the dagger strikes a creature that has blood, the grooves of the dagger will fill and activate its abilities. As long as the blood remains in the dagger, subsequent attacks against the same creature will deal an extra 1d6 piercing damage. While filled with blood, if the dagger is suspended downwards from its silver string, it will begin to point in the direction of the connected creature.

The blood will remain inside the dagger for a period of 24 hours, after which it will dry and the dagger will become inert. In order to refill the dagger, the attuned user must cleanse its grooves using their own blood, requiring a sacrifice of 4d6 damage. Additionally, a creature may not unattune from the dagger until they have killed a creature with the dagger since attuning.

If there is currently no blood in the dagger and it is suspended from its string, it will lean slightly towards any naturally magical creatures in the vicinity.
