The Barbed Bird is a rough tavern located in the Common Ward of Bucktuck City. It is famous for its fighting pit, which lies in the center of the tavern floor, recessed about 10 feet into the ground. Most patrons come to watch and bet on the fights held every night, as the food and drink isn't of great note. The atmosphere of the bar is loud, dirty and raucous, though most are generally in good spirits.

Description

The exterior of the Barbed Bird is somewhat unassuming; the 3 story building is constructed with old, worn food. An iron, somewhat rusted marquee depicting what appears to be a raven covered in spiny feathers sits above the tavern's double doors, which appear to have been broken at multiple points and crudely fixed with strips of scrap metal.

The first floor of the tavern is the bar floor as well as the fight pit, which takes up most of the floor space. While some wooden tables are lined up around the walls, most of the seats in the tavern are placed close to the perimeter of the pit, which is rectangular in shape. The bar counter is long and made of a dark wood and finished with resin. The bar is well stocked, but contains no spirits of great value. A rack holding a number of weapons behind the counter is meant to dissuade patrons from making threats to the staff.

The second and third floors contain the rooms of the tavern, most of which are small, cramped and somewhat dirty. A small bathroom is on the second floor, and its floor is often slick with blood after the fighters in the pit get done washing their wounds.

A secret door in the back of the preparation room for the pit leads down into a tunnel that ends up in the Unknown.

History

In 989 IaC, the Cursebusters stayed in the Barbed Bird for a number of days. Caedali fought in the pit, beating Strikeforth but falling against a powerful half-giant.
