“They disarmed me, but in the end, they wouldn’t dare part a frail old woman from her cloak. Their mistake.”~ Naneith the Gentle
Whirl is a wondrous item that requires attunement to use. It is an enchanted cloak with a bladed edge that can be commanded to fight on its own.
Description
A unique cloak woven from thick black fibers. The edge of the cloak is lined by a flexible steel with a sharpened edge. The inverse of the cloak displays designs woven from silver thread that resemble magical circles.
Effects
You can use a bonus action to remove the cloak from your back and speak the Command Word. When you do so, the cloak splays out into a rotating disc and begins to hover, flies out up to 30 feet away, and attacks one creature of your choice within 5 feet of it. The cloak uses your Attack roll and ability score modifier to Damage rolls, using 1d8 as its weapon damage die.
While the cloak hovers, you can use a Bonus Action to cause it to fly up to 30 feet to another spot within 30 feet of you. As part of the same Bonus Action, you can cause the cloak to Attack one creature within 5 feet of it.
After the hovering cloak attacks for the fourth time, it flies up to 30 feet to return to your neck, attaching itself to you and becoming limp.
History
Whirl was once in the possession of the famed hero Naneith the Gentle.
The cloak eventually ended up in the hands of Garash the Dealmaker, who sold it to Kel Stevaen in 989 IaC.
