“A rose like none other.”
~ Terrific, Devoted of Aalith
Thorn is a magic +1 dagger that requires attunement to use, and can also be used as a spell focus. It is capable of using magical power to augment its attacks, and can siphon some of the energy cast through it to generate a dim, purple light.
Description
A fine curved dagger made of clean steel that reflects a blue sheen when observed in direct lighting. It has a rather ordinary leather wrap around its handle, and a symbol resembling a half-closed eye covered in thorns and roses is engraved into the steel pommel. A perfectly round hole is cut into the base of the blade near its ornate, angular silver guard. When filled with magic, a small purple orb becomes suspended in the hole, and angular veins of purple light will climb across the dagger’s surface, with small intermittent triangular protrusions that resemble thorns.
Effects
You gain a +1 bonus to attacks and damage rolls made with this weapon. The dagger can be used as a spell focus and will provide material components for most spells. While holding it, you get a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls. Once a spell is cast from Thorn, its magical light will activate, casting dim light in a 15 foot radius.
Actions
Pinprick
After making a successful melee attack with the dagger, at the cost of a 1st level spell slot, you can initiate a magical attack with Thorn. Waves of magical energy are sent through the target’s body, dealing 4d6 force damage. If a higher level spell slot is used, the damage increases by 1d6 for each level above 1st. This ability can be used 3 times a day.
History
Thorn was found and identified by Steve Moran after pilfering it from the corpse of a deceased mage of the Dark Embers.
