Lanwright Bodgit

This character is dead.
Captain Bodgit

Captain Lanwright Bodgit is the deceased, ghostly captain of the Dirty Whale, a ghost ship that wanders the coast of Gessaria and combats the forces of Jylurm. Captain Bodgit once ran his ship as a transport vessel for those seeking travel across the Fissured Sea, but after his ship sank and his soul persisted out of unrest, he began to use his unusual situation to take the fight to the god of the seas.

Description

Lanwright has a long, white beard, a bit of belly, and tanned skin. His captain's uniform is faded and tattered, but is decorated in a variety of trinkets and trophies that would seem to imply he is a well traveled man. In his spectral form, he is slightly transparent and glows with an eerie blue aura.

Bodgit is a bit rough, and a bit of a miser, but he highly values the lives of those he is working for. He is less so concerned for the lives of his crew, as they "know what they signed up for". He knows the Fissured Sea well, and can cleanly traverse the dangerous waters without causing sickness or panic.

History

In Iron 989, Captain Bodgit left the harbors of Jaergden Karkast towards Tevari Port Town, expertly navigating the seas of the Fissured Sea like he had done so many times before. Incidentally, some of the travelers on the ship had been coerced into riding it by the demigod Tarisi, including the spy Wander, sorcerer Journey, the smith Leadbelly Fargus, and the Ethrellian royalty Phaelnah Ellarian. Also notably, the future herald of Gulchax, Eugene Wormtail, had also stowed away on his ship. However, when the journey was nearing its completion, his boat was accosted by two crusher crabs and later a legion of Storm Knights, eventually resulting in Lanwright blowing up his own ship to help his customers escape in a dinghy.

Lanwright, the majority of his crew, and one of his customers (Lodgren Teravash) did not survive the explosion, and his ship sank to the bottom of the ocean. The god Jylurm, seeing this as an opportunity to twist their souls into monstrosities, bound their souls into the Material Plane, forcing Lanwright to relive the explosion over and over in hopes of driving him insane. However, Lanwright's spirit proved indomitable, and eventually he rallied the souls of his men to fight back against Jylurm's influence, raising the Dirty Whale from the ocean in defiance of the god. Locked into their new purpose of fighting back Jylurm's power, Lanwright led his ghost ship in a crusade around Gessaria, protecting its shores from the ocean's evils.

Lanwright eventually met up with his final customers again on Slaghead Island, when his boat found Leadbelly Fargus locked in a mental battle against Jylurm on the sea floor. Lanwright lead his ship to scoop up the smith and return his to land. During the Battle for the Sun, Langwright would fight alongside his ship against the armies of Jylurm that sought to take advantage of the chaos caused by the Nightseeker.
