Urkin Flurkey's Magic Turkey

A wondrous item.

Description

Urkin Flurkey's Magic Turkey appears to be a medium sized wooden turkey, crudely carved from some sort of wood, likely ash. The woodwork is a bit amateur, with numerous rough edges. It is quite heavy.

Effects

The item must be attuned to a user to activate its properties. When attuning, the user must come up with single word activation phrases for each of the item's abilities. As long as the item remains attuned to a user, any time the user mutters the activation phrase in any circumstance, the corresponding action will be taken by the turkey.

Animate. The user verbally activates the turkey with a word of their choosing and it will spontaneously animate, acting and sounding very much like a real turkey. However, it still retains its wooden shape and rigidness, and would likely only be able to fool someone from a good distance. Uttering the same word will end the enchantment.

Flightless Fowl. A second verbal activation of the user's choice as a bonus action will signal the turkey to attack, sending it flying at a target that the user can see. The turkey accelerates at 10ft/s^2 (added at the end of a turn) towards its target with an initial velocity of 10ft/s, so starting from a still position, it can travel 60ft in one turn, 120ft/s in two, 180ft/s in three, and so on. On the turn where the turkey would come in contact with the target, user makes an attack roll for the turkey equal to 1d20 + Charisma + Proficiency + the turkey's velocity/60. On hit, it deals 1d12+2 bludgeoning damage, with an additional 2d12+2 for every 60ft/s of velocity. If it travels for 3 turns, it deals 5d12+6 damage. Its velocity caps out at 600ft/s, or 19d12+20 damage. The structural integrity of the turkey will be compromised should it reach speeds over 300ft/s and collide with a rigid surface.

Bye-Bye Bird. A third verbal activation will cause the turkey shrink to the size of a thimble. This counts as a bonus action. The weight of the turkey becomes around 4 lbs. The same activation phrase will cause it to grow to its normal size again.

History

A some point, the item was crafted by the gnome artificer apprentice Urkin Flurkey at the Erintrine School of Magic.

At some point the Shadow Guard agent Derriden Copswhet got their hands on the item. Following Derriden's death at the hands of Wander and Seamus McHammerface, the tiefling Journey took the turkey for herself.

"Urkin, why the fuck did you make this thing. What the hell is wrong with you." - Head Gnome Serish, Erintrine School of Magic, shortly before being bludgeoned to death by a wooden turkey
