Beasts are naturally occuring animals that populate the world of Hazeron. Scholars differentiate beasts from other similar creatures by their suspected origins; for example, wolves are considered beasts as they are believed to have been naturally formed on the Material Plane, while owlbears are suspected to be a magical crossbreed that was artificially created, earning it the title of monstrosity. While beasts may share many similarities with other creatures, they are usually considered to be more mundane in nature, lacking in innate magic of strange abilities.
Taxonomists have long argued about the detriment of demarcating beasts simply through conjectural knowledge of a creature's origins, but the terminology has endured centuries regardless.
