Eitryll Windseeker

Betrayer Captain

Eitryll, or Captain Eitryll, was the leader of the Madrioc Commission in Madrioc. He was a relatively serious person, but fair and forward. It later came to light that he was cunning and manipulative person, but still cared deeply for his city.

Description

Eitryll had long auburn hair that terminated around his shoulders. He often wore a tired expression, likely from dealing with the guards under his command. He was usually outfitted with the garbs of a Madrioc Commision guard, mainly a brown shawl that displays the orange, green, and blue of Madrioc's flag.

Eitryll cultivated the image of being a fair and straightfoward captain of the guard, earning respect and trust from both his men and the guild of the Circle of Merchants. Much of this persona, however, was a ruse concocted by Eitryll to make is easier for him to enact other, more sinister motives without suspicion. Still, Eitryll was primarily motivated by good, and was in most regards, a decent man.

History

Eitryll's surname was originally Eyselan, and was the second born son of the powerful Sanarian family. However, Eitryll's birth was the result of a short lived tryst between his father and a traveling human bard. Eitryll was raised in the family estate due to the insistence of his father, who loved him dearly, but much to the chagrin of the rest of the house. Eitryll decided to leave after his elder brother became deathly ill, fearing significant conflict from any claims to succession due to his blood. He took to the road and adopted the name Windseeker.

Eitryll's travels eventually landed him in Madrioc, where he took up a post in the Madrioc Commission. Eitryll's training as a noble had prepared him for the rigors of diplomacy, and he quickly rose in the ranks of the Commission. In Iron 938, Eitryll was named Captain of the Guard, a position he held until his death in 951.

Eitryll became committed to the safety of Madrioc, and began to police the city with a more unique methodology than his predecessors; rather that continually jail repeat offenders, Eitryll would buy off informants and install agents in crime rings to slowly curb their operations, rather than outright arrest them. While Eitryll was able to keep a favorable public face, his operatives were deep undercover in various terrible criminal operations, ranging from trafficking to assassination. Through his laborious machinations, by Iron 951, criminal activity in the city was at an all-time low. Eitryll then turned his attention to the next major threat to the city, the dragon Zahast.

Notably, in Iron 951, Eitryll briefly hired the fabled dragonborn hero Tyerjon into the Madrioc Commission. After a poor showing of respect for rank by Tyerjon nearly caused Eitryll to fire him, Ieurdex Weleygo held some sort of leverage over Eitryll, the threat of it being enough that he overlooked Tyerjon's poor work as a guard. However, this instance of saving the dragonborn's job was ultimately unnecessary, as days later Tyerjon would give up his post to adventure with the Peas.

Seizing the opportunity posed by the sudden arrival of Haradumeir upon the southern shores of the Nightspell Marches, Eitryll used his underworld connections to hire a group of necromancers from Danzri's Folly to antagonize Zahast and fit various pests to the dragon, like ogres and goblins, with the lightning magic from the purple crystal. Eitryll further antagonized Hamadumeir herself by sending forces to dril into her crystal, prompting her to send out a cry for help, similar to a mating call. His drove Zahast into a frenzy, and he began attacking the Arterax, marking the beginning of the aggressions against the Moors.

However, Zahast's rage and the resulting casualties were not enough to convince certain members of the council to go on the offensive against the dragon; in response, Eitryll used his necromancers to attack the gates of the city, framing them as minions of Zahast, further increasing his level of threat. When they would still not be convinced, Eitryll goaded other influential people of Madrioc to hold a summit in an attempt to change their minds. However, Eitryll used the event to stage an ambush along with the necromancers; a final attempt to convince them of the threat. The captain went as far as turning his own men into undead against their wills and placing them around the event hall, culminating in a bloody event that managed to end the lives of council members both for and against the engagement of Zahast. Eitryll himself fought against his own undead forces, seeking to end his life in the chaos, but only succeeded in losing an arm due to being rescued by Razodon Goswin and the Peas. Perhaps because of the losses, Eitryll's plan worked, and the Moors unified against Zahast, resulting in the dragon's eventual defeat.

Due to Eitryll's original plan to die in the event hall, he had left many unresolved loose ends that could be traced back to him. Most damning was the complete lack of necromancers in the battle against Zahast, and certain eyewitnesses that claimed to have seen him poisoning sleeping guard members, presumably to make them undead. After a thorough investigation, Eitryll's other machinations later came to life, and the half elf was put to death as a sentencing for live lost that could have otherwise been saved. While remorseful for the innocent lives lost, Eitryll stood by his actions, stating that the children of the Moors would pay with even more blood if these actions were done later than sooner. He fully accepted his sentencing, pleading guilty to all charges against him.

On Insrazine 21st, 952 IaC, when Eitryll's execution was set to be carried out, he has found missing from his holding cell, where he had not been eating for over 3 months. The only traces found in the cell was a small, pink flower and a faint, berry-like scent.
