- Grognock met with some monks from his monastery who offered to teach him some hidden techniques
- The rest of the party encountered Eitryll in the Eastern Ward
- After unsuccessfully attempting to convince him to let Leadbelly stay and complete his halberd, Eitryll accompanied the party back to Rest Assured, where they waited for Tyerjon to return
- Upon Tyerjon’s arrival, the captain chewed him out for yet again abandoning his post, warning him that his pay for the week would likely be docked.
- You also lost Seamus, with Quiet mentioning he dropped in earlier, but left in a frenzy, claiming that he had been found.
- While conversing in the tavern about their possible next moves, you heard a large explosion
- Looking outside, you saw a giant demonic face inside a giant cloud of orange smoke erupting from the top of the Crooked Climb
- Making your way to the Spiral Ward, you join the crowd of onlookers at the base of the tower
- You attempt to talk your way in through the guards, but they aren’t having it
- Backing up a bit, Journey turns Wander invisible, and he attempts to scale the side of the tower
- Unable to find any grips past the second floor, Wander successfully lassoed the window above him
- He casted an illusion on the window to make it appear normal, and caused a ruckus below by mimicking sounds of thunder, using it as a distraction to break the window and make his way into the tower
- Wander made his way to the top of the tower, witnessing Renbedar getting admonished by multiple other wizards
- Wander discovered that Renbedar was experimenting with the Sallow Stone the group had given him just that morning
- Wander attempted to reason with Renbedar, but failed to reach a common ground
- Wander attempted to inspect the stone, and was taken by it, experiencing an unstoppable urge to take it with him
- His attempt to steal it was halted by Renbedar, and soon he was escorted out of the room by a sort of private guard
- Down below, the guards discovered the broken window and went into a frenzy, entering the tower
- Wander made his escape by adopting the guise of a wizard
- (Now has robes?)
- Wander made his escape by adopting the guise of a wizard
- You headed back to your tavern, where you purchased rooms for another 3 nights at a reduced rate.
- In the morning, you were escorted by a guard to the Inner Circle, where you were made to enter their meeting
- First, the leader of the Warriors Guild, a large grey tiefling named Sanguinity, spoke of the continual threats of the fluctuating magic in the Nightspell Marches, as well as the increased aggression from the minions of the dragon Zahast, the Vilespawn.
- He said that currently, the situation was under control, but warned that his guild would seize control of the Circle should the threat exceed comfortable levels.
- Next, the Circle addressed Renbedar’s experiment from the previous night
- You explained your role in delivering the Sallow Stone, and detailed the events of your travels to the Circle
- The leader of the Bookkeepers Guild, Eyles Hierto, recalled the name of the leader of the bandits, Ventrex Caustar, as a lich from the Deadmarch that had been thought to be defeated long ago
- From one of Renbedar’s assistants, you learned that the Sallow Stone contained an aspect of the demigod Vortek, an evil god that once did battle with Shalde, a demigod in service to Fectovarano.
- You learned of six other artifacts – the Discordant Horn from Pallam, the Farseeker’s Eye, kept somewhere in Astrilane, the Essence of Zhaal, suspected to be somewhere in Wolkaea, the Blood of Batrax, some of which is famously kept in the Bloodspire Temple in Betaria, the Tongue of Istvhal, held in the Deadmarch, and the Unyielding Flame, held in Locir Dorcas.
- Renbedar elaborates on his intentions, detailing that he became concerned when both the Discordant Horn and The Farseeker’s Eye went missing. He suspects that they are being collected by a group, but his scrying attempts have so far been unsuccessful, with his visions being clouded by impenetrable shadows.
- Renbedar kept correspondence with Kradva about the stone, and had him bring it to him in order to keep it safe
- However, Renbedar is also a consummate wizard, and wanted to delve into the secrets that the Sallow Stone holds.
- Over the hours you spent in the Circle meeting hall, you learned the names of the leaders of each guild:
- The Traders Guild is led by Hartegon Korefex, a smooth-talking human with fair skin and short black hair. He seems relatively well respected, and it can be assumed that he holds a lot of clout in the Circle.
- The Miners Guild is led By Kulgan Greysoot, a dwarf with tan skin, long brown braided hair, and a full beard. Kulgan is a traditionalist, stubborn, and headstrong.
- The Mercenaries Guild is led by Telsore Ministro, a handsome half elf with light blonde hair that falls to his shoulders. He is usually quiet, unless someone speaks ill of Hartegon, at which point he will leap to his defense.
- The Artists Guild is led by Esleveyn Delae, an elf with medium cut, short brown hair. She seems to be an academic, but is frank and down to earth.
- The Smiths Guild is led by Bureden Holkest, a human with long brown hair. He is an honest person, and generally does not get involved in the more heated debates.
- The Bankers Guild is led by Phesto, a human with pale skin and bright orange hair, shortly cut. He is argumentative and passionate, but is also logical and shrewd. He butts heads often the Hartegon, and is one of the more vocal members of the Circle.
- The Farmers Guild is led by Suren Stillstream, an older human with dark skin and long, golden hair. She appears to be a simple woman, and not terribly bright, but seems very honest and kind.
- The Fisher’s Guild is led by Kravve Melshore, a half elf with dirty blonde hair, pulled back into a messy ponytail. She is quite large, and her bulging muscles are covered with deep scars. She barely speaks, and spends much of her time in the meeting whittling.
- The Warriors Guild is led by Sanguinity, a large, imposing grey tiefling in a dark black cloak. He is single-mindedly focused on the Marches, and cares not for the rest of the politics of the Circle.
- The Bookkeepers Guild is led by Eyles Hierto, a small female gnome with short brown hair. She has an eidetic memory, and her abilities are prized by the members of the Circle. She is usually writing, and only really speaks when called upon.
- The Mages Guild is led by Renbedar Uleshan, an old human man with shortly cut white hair and a thick, short, angular beard. He is nonchalant and generally unflappable, which often becomes a point of contention among the members of the Circle.
- The Circle instructed you to remain in town so that you can be called upon once they reach a consensus on what to do with the stone.
- After talking to the leader of the Madrioc Commission, Ieurdex Weleygo, she told a specific number to tell Eitryll in oder to get him to cut you some slack.
- After talking to Eityrll, he begrudgingly gives you the run of the city, and allows Tyerjon to stay in Madrioc for the time being, a little angry that he wouldn’t return to his post in Hazerhorn.
- Leadbelly made his way to the Eastern Ward again, meeting up with a woodworker that was recommended by Quiet in order to finish his halberd
- Leadbelly named the halberd Onyr’s Tongue
- Grognock headed back to the Fectern Temple, and began his training with the monks.
- Phaelnah headed to Aeltra’s Remedies, a small shop run by a wood elf couple that sells natural cures and salves
- Unsure of whatever taint was affecting her arm, the proprietor of the store directed her to Zulen’s Rest, a park in the city where there is a temple of Aeltra.
- Tyerjon, Wander, and Journey went to the Spiral Ward and met again with Avelos the Learned at the Lucid Dove.
- Journey sold her ring to Avelos
- Wander sold the Sonic Sword to Tyerjon
- Journey and Tyerjon headed to Roil and Boilers, meeting Gudric Boyle, the tired looking but strangely upbeat alchemist
- Journey had her purple potion identified as Cat’s Eye, a tincture that can grant sight in the dark, and boosts perception
- Tyerjon purchased a health potion, and Journey got one for Leadbelly
- Wander then ran all over town
- He finally got his foldable brazier
- He purchased a set of studded leather armor and bracers for Journey and Grognock
- He did something else too? I forget
- Phaelnah headed to the Temple of Aeltra, a small place built in the forest of Zulen’s Rest
- She met Aloest Eirdys, an ancient wood elf from the fey forest of Maedrin
- Aloest “inspected” Phaelnah’s arm, claiming that she was being used as an entry point for an entity outside the world, beyond the reach of Aeltra
- She explained it like the world was a slice of a long road that the entity was passing through, right through Phaelnah’s arm
- Aloest suggested speaking to the entity, if possible
- You eventually reconvened for supper at Rest Assured
- You were approached by a frail, timid looking man, who threatened the party with a knife, transforming into a strange, tiger-like humanoid with backwards hands
- You started making short work of the creature, with its attempts to attack you being in vain. It eventually escaped your persecution, leaving you with a note from a familiar acquaintance
- You assisted Quiet in fixing up the mess you made of her tavern
- Quiet told you about a tournament that was set to take place in a few days
- As you finally began to settle in again, the doors of the tavern flew open, and a comical looking man with a giant wizard’s hat confidently walked in, claiming that Renbedar said you would “help him with the rats”.
