Peralas is a somewhat remote city located in Hymnethas, above Lake Faelance. It is a fey-inspired traditionalist elven city that specializes in enchantments. Unlike many of the more grounded Sanarian communities outside the forests, Peralas is much more disconnected from the rest of the world, conducting only minor trade with the communities of Hymnethas in order to secure enough food and supplies to survive.

Description

Peralas is a beautiful elven city. Towering, ancient structures of stone have been built into the still-living trees that rise above the town. The town seems to work in harmony with the nature around it, and seems somewhat mysterious and mystical; the higher reaches of the city are obscured by a thick, fey fog, and magic seems to flow freely throughout the streets.

Structure

According to the mayor Llawayas Eir’dun, the town relies heavily on resources granted by Lake Faelance.

A large, invisible magical barrier protects the area just outside the city gates from intruders. To enter, an enchanted key must be presented to the barrier, which will part briefly to let a party in. The town is filled with gifted enchanters.

The people of the town are very close and open with one another, and do not appear to engage in commerce. Rather, they all simply rely on each other for different things, taking extreme liberties with one another. Members of the community will often wander into a random kitchen to ask for a meal, take various items without a thought, and walk into private scenarios as they please. Conversely, most members of the community are exceedingly generous, if not a bit wary of outsiders.

History

Recent

Around Iron 922, a group of devils managed to infiltrate the city, slowly replacing key citizens and embedding themselves in the community to pave the way for future plans.

In Iron 951, the adventuring party the Peas arrived in Peralas to fulfill a deal with a member of the Council of Dreamers, Deowyn Centhos, delivering relief supplies to the city in the wake of supposed attacks by the Divine Branch. In actuality, the shipment contained a multitude of ritual supplies for devils hiding in the city to corrupt the magic of Lake Faelance. Llawayas Eir’dun, the mayor of Peralas, promised the party various enchanted items after a few days in order to repay them for their services. These items were later delivered to the party, but were enchanted with devilish magic that was meant to control the adventurers.

Later in 951, the devils succeeded in their corruption of the heart of Lake Faelance, which they were attempting to turn into a massive portal that could transport the prison holding the archdevil Etarus to the Material Plane. After the defeat of Etarus by Wander, the devils of Peralas dug into their position, using the elves of the city as hostages.

In Iron 952, during the uprisings that gave way to the Great Throne War the Peas laid siege to Peralas along with the assistance of the remnants of the Divine Branch. The devils in Peralas were handily defeated an removed from their elven hosts. A contingent of Fectern priests led by Father Falis were able to later purify Lake Faelance, freeing Peralas from the grasp of the devils once and for all.
