The Howling Lake

April 2, 2020
  • Endelshine 23rd, 951
  • Wander awoke in the collapsed temple, separated by the others close to the central altar where Tarisi was sealed, with his leg broken and trapped beneath a boulder
    • He met briefly with Etarus, who chastised his brash actions, and wished him luck getting himself out of the cave
      • He taught Wander the ritual Infernal Library, giving him a strange, ash-covered card
    • Wander witnessed the ogre he met on the bandit ship in Tevari from many moons ago emerge from a waterway nearby, rushing towards the alter and smashing it a few times before sitting down and waiting in front of it
    • Getting the ogre’s attention, Wander convinced it to knock aside the boulder on top of him, kicking himself out of the way as the rest of the boulders avalanched around him
    • In a fit of desperation, Wander attempted to destroy the altar containing Tarisi
  • Phaelnah awoke trapped inside the body of a tree, with only her face sticking out, surrounded by luminescent fungi and moss
    • She was addressed by a fey-like entity with short, white hair that introduced herself as Evael, one of the children of Aeltra.
    • Evael chastised the fact that Phaelnah prayed to Fectovarano and drank his holy water, and told her to be more mindful in the future
    • Evael told Phaelnah to fix her arm and promptly disappeared before Phaelnah could get a single word in
  • Seamus woke up with his foot trapped under a rock, still gripping Voidspeaker, spotting Tyerjon under a pile of rocks across the way
    • Sensing the power built up inside his sword, Seamus lashed out with it, sending a beam of dark energy across the cavern just above Tyerjon, waking the dragonborn and freeing him
    • Tyerjon scuttled away from the falling rocks that would have smashed him otherwise, feeling around in the dark for Seamus, and unsuccessfully attempting to free his foot
  • Journey was awoken by Malae, who had saved the dragonborn from being crushed by a boulder with a new magic, Crystal Aspect.
    • Journey attempted to leap out from under the boulder, but it crushed the end of her foot as it fell.
    • She pulled herself out from under the rock, noticing Grognock’s clothes under a pointed rock, and underneath them a large handprint
  • Leadbelly awoke in one of the downward flowing currents of water, able to breathe from his storm aura
    • Some sort of godly avatar of Onyr appeared before him, admonishing the dwarf for his lack of progress and allowing the objects of his revenge to escape
    • The avatar presented Leadbelly with the spear Storm’s Eye Reamer, which is capable of creating holes between dimensions
    • Onyr advised that Leadbelly visit a high peak to battle his next champion, and told him to take some action soon, as he was getting bored
  • Leadbelly used the Reamer to escape from the water, making his way to the Rain Knight, who has been trapped under some rubble near the entrance of the temple
    • The Rain Knight was mostly unresponsive to questioning, claiming he knew very little about Balnar or the Nightseeker’s
    • Leadbelly stuck a knife through the knight’s foot as Seamus and Tyerjon noticed his presence in the cavern
    • Leadbelly walked over to assist Tyerjon in pulling Seamus out, but didn’t try very hard as Tyerjon pulled with all his strength, freeing the half elf but pulling his arm from its socket
    • Tyerjon attempted to push the arm back into its socket, but couldn’t quite figure out how to do it in the dark of the cavern
  • Freeing the Rain Knight, tying him up and putting him on his shoulder, Leadbelly used his Reamer to open a portal to the cavern Journey was trapped in
    • Journey took Grognock’s cargo shorts and accompanied Leadbelly to Wander’s cavern, where they witnessed the tiefling briefly stabbing the altar with his knife
    • Journey helped the crippled Wander through Leadbelly’s portal back to Seamus and Tyerjon, and eventually into Phaelnah’s cavern
    • Leadbelly carved Phaelnah out of her tree prison, and the elf set Seamus’ arm back into place.
  • Leadbelly opened up a portal as far above him as he could see into the waters of Lake Faelance, and the party made their way through
    • Leadbelly sank due to the weight from the Rain Knight, but simply walked to the shore
    • The rest of the party struggled a bit in the water, but eventually all made their way to the surface, and finally to the bank of the lake
  • Seeing refuge for the night, the party attempted to stay at the nearby Lakeheart Temple but were turned away after intimidating a priest when Leadbelly raised the Reamer to see inside the building
  • The group instead made camp not too far from the temple, enjoying the beautiful glow the lake gave off
    • Leadbelly discovered that a strange, silvery metal dust built up around the water’s edge, and collected some in various containers
    • Wander created a Tiny Hut, sulking about Grognock ignoring him in battle and Phaelnah’s lack of forewarning about the Nightseeker and Tarisi leading to him nearly getting killed
    • Tyerjon tested out the new powers of his Frosthold
    • Phaelnah fought back against the Nightblight, but it surged against her, absorbing the magical energy around the lake.
    • The group tried to get some sleep, but were awoken by extremely loud screaming and noise coming from the temple. Unable to rest with the noise, the group packed up and moved away from the peninsula, making camp close to a strange paper tower in the distance.
  • Endelshine 24th, 951
  • Waking up late in the morning, the group began their trip back to Peralas
    • Wander peeked into the paper tower and saw a man made of paper.
    • He took a spellbook and some pieces of paper from the tower, taking some time to cast Comprehend Languages in order to read the book, likely belonging to the mage Silestro.
    • Wander left a nice note for Silestro in case he returned for his things.
  • On the way to Peralas, the group had a heart to heart with Phaelnah
    • Journey put the Rain Knight to sleep to keep him from eavesdropping on the group
    • Phaelnah revealed the nature of her relationship with the Nightseeker, as well as her relationship with Inglis and Yoxxel
    • Journey spoke of the visions she shared with Tyerjon, and the threat of her relatives looking for her
    • Tyerjon discussed why he wanted to go to Sanar, believing answers to his past might be there
    • Seamus, as Murica, confessed her love for Yoxxel
    • There’s still a devil in Wander’s head
    • LEADBELLY WANTS HIS BOY
  • The group arrived in Peralas in the afternoon, and headed to the meeting hall, meeting up with Llawayas
    • Llawayas was quite enthusiastic about the “calming rituals” of the lake temple
    • The party regrouped with Ven’laen and Yoxxel, and some of the group agreed to return to Lake Faelance in order to witness the various rites and ceremonies
    • Leadbelly got a bucket from a random lady in town, all while the Rain Knight was strapped to his back
  • Accompanied by Yoxxel and Ven’laen, Leadbelly, Tyerjon, Seamus and Phaelnah went back to the lake
    • Yoxxel went swimming in the lake.
    • Refusing to untie the Rain Knight, Leadbelly passed some hours collecting more metal dust from the shore of the lake
    • The group went to the temple and ate a rather bland meal, got fed by lunatics and screamed at a rock
  • In Peralas, Wander and Journey walked into the house of Ileyas, who fed them.
    • Later, they visted the Inchantree, and spoke to an apprentice from the capital studying enchanting
    • Wander and Journey assisted the apprentice by taking the Phase Gauntlet from him, as he was making no progress with it
  • Endelshine 25th - 26th, 951
  • The group killed some time in Peralas waiting for their enchanted items to be completed
    • The group briefly held a conversation with the Rain Knight, and Leadbelly finally allowed him to stretch a bit
    • Phaelnah cast Sending to the Nightseeker, asking about Balnar and telling her about the Rain Knight
      • The Nightseeker’s response didn’t relay much information, but she told the party to keep the Rain Knight out of trouble
    • Wander traded his ared’wen wine to Llawayas in return for Journey’s platinum spear and his ared’wen wine, bringing Llawayas’ alcoholism to light
  • Endelshine 27th, 951
  • The party received their enchanted items from a very drunk Llawayas
  • The group set off alongside Ven’laen and Yoxxel back to Hymathel

  • Travel!
  • Endelshine 29th, 951
  • Exercising caution around the forest of Fystral Mol, the group eventually came upon a fallen wagon on the path they were taking.
    • Ever curious, Wander investigated the wagon under Journey’s invisibility as the rest of the group watched behind cover
      • Wander discovered strange, small divots around the wagon, and tracks from the wagon that seem to go on for a distance
    • Wander used his mage hand to poke around the wagon, disturbing some strange creatures that had folded themselves into the various bags and crates of the wagon
    • The strange, dark creatures had multiple long, thin legs terminating in spikes attached to moderately humanoid torsos with large, bloated stomachs. The armless torso connected to a long neck and a human-like face with a long, wide jaw, making an uncomfortable clicking noise
    • Many of the creatures that had fit themselves into the small spaces of the wagon emerged, training their eyeless sockets on Wander
