Thefess Clouscester is a middle-aged human mercenary that mainly operates in Sanaris as a member of the Broken Band. His outward appearance is that of a bumbling fool, a trait that carries over into his fighting style, but in fact he is a very competent individual that uses his demeanor to lower the guards of his opponents.
Description
Thefess is a balding, somewhat overweight, middle aged man. He has light olive skin and a prominent goatee that defines his otherwise non-existent chin. He wears a large shouldergard and has a rounded buckler strapped to his arm for deflecting attacks. He wields an ornate golden spear, contrasting greatly with his otherwise mundane look.
Thefess often plays the fool, but is a relatively shrewd businessman that uses his outward appearance to his advantage. Somewhat predictably, he is fond of food, particularly sausage.
History
Thefess was traveling with Whisper and some other members of the Broken Band when Karcius and Valx began tracking the mercenaries, mistaking Whisper for Journey. After fleeing from the Divine Branch in Shiloae, Thefess formed a contract with the tieflings to find their mark.
Thefess confronted the Peas after following them to Sanar from Hymathel, engaging mostly with Leadbelly in battle before being blinded by the dwarf's sparkdust trigger. When he finally regained his senses, he stood down at Valx's request, later leaving with the rest of his group.
Thefess met up with the Peas again at a shaeval bakery in the Lower Ring, and hungrily wolfed down some bread that was offered to him. The group made a deal with Thefess to get them access to the Inner Ring of the city, a promise that the mercenary made good on after taking them to the hideout of the Broken Band, introducing them to Bulendrar, and escorting them to the gates of the Inner Ring, before taking his payment and bidding the party well.
