A +1 magic weapon. It requires attunement to use.
Description
A weapon of variable form, though it always appears to be made of darksteel, covered in glowing blue arcane script. It is cold to the touch, and leaves frost on surfaces it sits on.
Effects
Vandtradil cannot be used until it is attuned, which requires the user to tell the sword the object of their hunt. Vandtradil may reject your quest if it is too vague or the weapon is disinterested in it, subsequently receding and refusing contact until the next dawn.
Once attuned, the user may dictate the form of the weapon, with the stipulation that the resulting weapon does either slashing or piercing damage. Vantradil appears to be capable of taking on most shapes, but will always refuse to become a rapier. As an action or bonus action, a user may have Vantradil change form. It is also capable of becoming a horse with a speed of 60 feet. Vantradil will take its own actions in combat as a horse, but will listen to the commands of its wielder.
Whatever form it takes, the weapon affords a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls when it is used. Additionally, against the object of the “hunt” that was stated during its attunement, the sword will deal an additional 1d6 necrotic damage and 1d6 cold damage.
History
In the battle against Corvel the Collector Knight, Vantradil originally appeared as a dark, shadowy steed until the knight reached into its body and formed it into a sword. Tyerjon picked up the sword shortly after the knight was dealt with, but quickly dropped it after hearing the sword speak in his mind. It was unceremoniously dumped into the Roomy Chest for later investigation.
The rogue Wander later attuned to the weapon and formed it into a dagger. He made his hunt to be for a dragon, eventually using the dagger to take down Zahast the Vilespawn. Vantradil then named a hunt of its own, to kill an elder naga.
“Who is this? What do they hunt?”
