Finn Abalone

The Sailor With No Name

As recorded by the Librarian, Keeper of Echoes Beyond Time.

“The sea does not forget its dead. It simply carries them elsewhere.” — Saying among sailors of the Sword Coast.

There is a man known only to most as Gar. Not the first to bear the name, and—should fate have its way—not the last.

He was once a sailor, a simple mariner whose heart belonged to the tides and whose family sailed beside him. That life ended in fire and steel: pirates fell upon their vessel like vultures, slaughtering his kin before his eyes. His arm was severed; his body cast adrift to the mercy of the sea.

Yet the sea showed mercy. He awoke upon an unfamiliar shore, the strange artifact now known as the Amulet of Living Coral clutched in his remaining hand. Whether it drifted to him or he to it is a question that no current can answer. He thanked the waves for his life. They gave him something in return.

Not long after, he was seized by the Cult of the Crushing Wave—who mistook his bond with the sea for a blessing of their own dread power. Their mistake became his fortune. He was rescued by Amira Abalone, where, in the midst of combat, he learned to call forth water itself as a limb—fluid, strong, and unyielding.

He returned with her to Willow’s Larch, where he joined The A-Team and stood against the unnatural storm that sought to swallow the town whole. In the days that followed, he journeyed with them to Amphail, and from there to Riverguard Keep, where he came face to face with Gar Shatterkeel.

Now, knowing the truth of his identity, he walks the world no longer adrift. The waves may have carried him far from who he was—but he remembers, and he holds tight to those who have helped him rebuild.
