The Sink lies southeast of Emberquay, just beyond the southeastern city wall, forming Goldcrest’s densest and poorest district. Narrow, winding streets are packed with cramped tenements, leaning buildings, and alleys that seem to multiply with every step. The air is heavy with smoke, dampness, and the smells of overcrowding, while the constant hum of daily survival echoes through the labyrinthine streets.
The district is home to laborers, dockhands, petty merchants, and the city’s struggling populace. Markets are chaotic and informal, often spilling into streets or courtyards. Taverns and communal kitchens serve as meeting points, while thieves, hustlers, and clandestine guilds move in the shadows. Despite hardship, The Sink has its own vitality — street performers, makeshift schools, and small shrines add life and culture to the crowded streets.
Its location along the river and near Emberquay makes it a hub for casual Labour, smuggling, and illicit trades. Residents often commute north to Emberquay or Ironviel for work, or to the Foundry Belt for apprenticeships, blending survival with opportunity.
