Ragnar Meliamne and Matty 'Asmatheus' Forester awoke to find themselves imprisoned in a cage made of bones. In the next cage, Juul Troski, Thor Battlehammer, Diggy Holderhek, and Danté Galanodel were similarly trapped, along with several elves. The cages were sealed with powerful magic, making escape seem impossible. Suddenly, from the shadows emerged Kody Hunter, who had been tracking Orcs to Demoña. Using the head of an orc to break the magical seal, Kody freed Ragnar and Matty. Despite the pleas of their companions, Ragnar and Matty decided to leave the others behind and escape the island. Their journey to the port was interrupted by the pursuit of two large trolls. However, they were saved by archers at the gates of the Western Kingdom's encampment. Here, they met Lieutenant Christopher Decan and were introduced to a new general, Harold Oscody, who had replaced Selena Victor. To their shock, they learned that 2.5 years had passed since they last left the encampment, though it felt like only a single night to them. Suspicion fell on them as Harold accused them of treason and questioned the disappearance of Selena Victor and her soldiers. Ragnar, Matty, and Kody made a desperate attempt to flee by boarding a ship, aided by Lieutenant Decan. As the soldiers closed in, Kody sacrificed himself, jumping off the ship to block the soldiers and allowing Ragnar and Matty to escape as the ship sailed north.
After 15 days at sea, they arrived at a small island meant to be a Western Kingdom outpost, only to find it overrun by pirates. They fended off the attackers and resupplied their ship. Setting sail once more, they endured another 17 days on the open sea before finally arriving at Redhaven, the capital city of the Western Kingdom. As they docked, the city was alive with fireworks and parades celebrating the birth of the crown prince of the Western Kingdom. Amidst the celebrations, Ragnar and Matty pondered their next steps in a world that had changed dramatically in their absence.
