The bustling town of Hertendin is an industrious town nestled in the south eastern mountains of the Sunderred Spires and the North of the Kingdom of Sinuseia.  The population is primarily dwarves and there is a saying 'if you don't work in the mines, you're related to someone who works in the mines'.  Coal, iron and other minerals are found a plenty in the nearby mountains and many industrious dwarves have made a living doing what dwarves do best.

Description

Hertendin sits on the side of the mountain like a fried egg on a pile of bacon. The yolk, the castle near the centre of the city was obviously built on the most prominent and defensible location at the time, but the white, the rest of the city has since spread up, down and around to fill every crevice and cover every mound. The roads running up and through the city are mostly straight, but wind up and down and are crisscrossed by alleys and stairways leading up or down the hillsides. There are no walls around the city. The centre of the city is made of largely stone buildings which, as you move out towards the edge of the city, give way to smaller stone and wooden buildings, then to small wooden buildings with gardens and eventually into farmland crammed into every possible flat area in the valley.
There is a constant clamour of voices and sounds of industry as the citizens, seemly predominantly dwarfs go about their business of turning raw materials into processed, processed material into finished goods then trading them with each other where it seems the loudest voice might get the sale. The streets seem dirtier than one might find in a large city, probably due to the large number of livestock and working animals that can be frequently seen moving through the streets. Despite the hustle and bustle and constant noise, there seems to be an air of joviality and neighbourliness among the residents, as everyone seems fairly content with going about their lives and getting on with their jobs.
