Hirelings

Hirelings are any NPCs whom the player character hires to do a job. That job can range from merely the collection of items to running businesses (provided they own the correct building to run such a business) to hiring Men-at-Arms for the purposes of fighting to even hiring mercenaries. Each of these hirelings have differing costs related to their skill sets and of course their expectations. The wiki is merely a guide however and in some areas of Divinicus Echora prices may differ due to economic stressors, regional inflation and many other factors.

For the purposes of this document an Unskilled Laborer is a commoner which has no proficiencies and therefore no special skills. These are often farmers, peasants working in transportation services, servants and other such professions. A Skilled Laborer by contrast is a commoner whom has a tool proficiency such as Blacksmith's Tools and therefore their services are in higher demand and require more specialized skillsets. An Artisan Laborer is not often going to be hired by player characters but include valuable but largely unnecessary services such as Painter's Tools and similar 'artsy' tool proficiencies.

Slaves, however, are not paid directly but instead are paid (on the table) for their housing and of course their food supply. The cost directly correlates to the cost of keeping such an individual alive and in a state of body that they can continue working. Slaves, unlike other workers, have a much higher tendency to revolt or steal if they can get away with it. A DM may, at any time, enact a slave revolt against the owner of said slaves with a reasonable motive.
Additionally it is important to note that the table is a guide and that hiring NPC prices may also require additional income based upon their social status. An young and unskilled noble, for example, may demand more payment as a result of his birthright. Likewise an elderly unskilled laborer may request additional payment due to a medical necessity or for his experience in the job.

It is important to note additionally that combatants are not typical hirelings. They demand more payment as well as down payments for the nature of their work. The more skilled a combatant hireling is the more demands they will have. Lesser skilled combatants will likely not demand much as their main payment comes in the form of experience which they use to sharpen their craft. Higher skilled combatants, however, will likely demand lengthy contracts as they value steady work over impromptu jobs and will also likely require a fully written contract as well as a down payment which goes to their next of kin should they be killed in battle.
Consult a GM before hiring any combatants.

Additionally, most combatants that are Veteran or higher will have the requirement of a Month's wages security deposit as a down payment. This deposit is typically returned to the player upon the combatant's success but if the combatant is dead it is given to their next of kin as compensation for their death. If they have no next of kin it is automatically used for their funeral rites and whatever else the character may have desired.

Leveled combatants require a full yearly contract in order to even consider coming into service (12,000gp). These combatants also may have higher costs depending on their level with higher level combatants costing considerably more money than lower leveled ones. The chart below is a guide and may be altered at the GM's discretion. Additionally, leveled combatants require a full year's payment as a down payment before they will come into service. All leveled combatants start at level 5; making them considerably more useful than most other combatants. These combatants will more commonly be seen leading armies into battle than fighting by a party's side.
