Gnolls are primarily carnivorous, but will sometimes eat vegetables or fruit to round out their diet. Though they can and will hunt for food, they can also consume corpses that they have scavenged without any ill effects.
Perception & Sensory Capabilities
Gnolls have a finely tuned sense of hearing and smell.
Making a Gnoll
Your gnoll character has the following racial traits.
- Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Dexterity or Constitution score increases by 1.
- Age. Gnolls age quickly, reaching maturity by 14 years of age. Though they can live to be 120 (or older), most rarely make it past middle age.
- Alignment. Gnolls tend to fall on the Chaotic side of the morality spectrum. Despite myths to the contrary, they are not inherently evil.
- Size. Gnolls are between 7 and 7'6" feet tall and average about 300 pounds. Your size is Medium.
- Speed. Your base walking speed is 30ft.
- Bite. Your fanged maw is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
- Born Hunter. You have proficiency in the Survival skill.
- Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern colour in darkness, only shades of gray.
- Keen Smell. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
- Rampage. When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack on your turn, you can use a bonus action to move up to half your speed and make an unarmed strike.
- Savage Hunger. You can spend ten minutes messily devouring the body of a humanoid, beast, or monstrosity and regain one hit die. Once you use this trait you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
- Languages. You can speak, read and write Common and Gnoll.
