The Warforged are metallic automatons who have been animated through generous use of magic and engineering. In the desperation of the Second Age, shortly after the fall of Deshen, the first Warforged were created by a forgotten cabal of mystics and scientists to serve as a last ditch weapon against the forces of Apollyon. Since then, the ancient Warforged have wandered the world. They are Beldkind's sentient creation, and their existence is controversial. The Warforged are sentient, placing them on equal mental and spiritual footing with Beldkind, but they were not created by Beld, but rather by Beldkind, and this has created a perception of Warforged as an affront to Beld. However, Beld sees Warforged as his children, and places them on equal footing with the ones he personally created. Because they are not biological, Warforged do not age, though their parts can age and deteriorate, requiring replacement and repair. However, the Warforged lose their memories every 200 years, causing a "reset" which reverts their souls to a "blank slate". This "death" caps the Warforged "lifespan" at 200 years. This was done so that the Warforged could not grow weary of millennia of war and conflict, and would always be "fresh" enough to combat the forces of the Abyss.
