The Kardunashi Sea Empire was an empire spanning the Sea of Gold governed by the city Kardunash. It was a major global power, the first major power following the fall of the Deshenite Kingdom, founding multiple colonies on the western coast of Yekare, which became the Free Cities, and colonies on the eastern coast of Avanar. The Free Cities began to gain independence in the 1500s, heralding a period of decline for the Empire. In the year 1803, King Beldo-Jonis V died without an heir, initiating a period of civil war as the nobility fought over the crown. In 1809, Balthezar Orrin emerged victorious and cemented his rule and stability with a new republican constitution. Kardunash would be governed by the noble Council, and elect a head of state called the Pharon from its ranks to serve for life.
Though the Kardunashi Monarchy had territorial holdings in the Sea of Gold before the period of the Empire, the Sea Empire's origin is dated to Quarta I's overthrow of the diarchic system of the Land Lord of Kardunash and the Sea Lord of the Overseas Territories to create a monarchy solely ruled by the Sea Lords.
The maximum territorial extent of the Sea Empire. All the territory within the gold borders (except for Fangardh and Meradarath) was under the Sea Lord's dominion.
