Sir Arcanos of the Lake is a legendary figure in Notoshi folktales.

According to the tales, Sir Arcanos was the bastard son of King Atwur Ali Zhad and his lover Morgwyn. Arcanos was raised away from his father's sight and knowledge but learned of his parentage and brashly rode to his father's seat to participate in a tournament for the hand of Atwur's maiden daughter as an anonymous knight. When he won the tournament, Arcanos rejected the prize by announcing his heritage to all assembled. He requested the honor of knighthood from his father and a place at his court, which was graciously granted by the legendary king. Arcanos would later marry and father children of his own. When King Atwur perished and his quarrelsome children fought and killed each other for his throne, it was Arcanos' cunning and dutiful eldest daughter, Ythera I, who was eventually named Queen. She took the name Arcanos for her dynasty, in honor of her father, and since then (until the Pelegonic Conquest) House Arcanos has reigned over Lake Arcanos using Sir Arcanos' personal arms from his appearance at the tournament as their sigil.
